Mercedes E-Class convertible 2010 roof does not open

Hi all I am a new member so be easy with me I have a Mercedes E-Class convertible 2010 engine 2.1 roof does not open on dashboard it says boots separator needs to be closed which it is just wondering if anybody knows a good fix or a good garage thanks Ian

The separator might be closed but the micro switch (left hand side) might not be closing. It is possible to get the separator down and miss the switch (I can in my SLK).

If the switch is closing then you could try working the switch repeatedly and spray contact cleaning lubricant into it at the same time.

Also check for wear in the lugs that operate the switch. There should be a quiet click as the separator goes into the closed position.

It’s usually the two gas struts that attach to the seperator that have gone weak. Although the seperator moves as it should the gas struts push it tight into the microswitch
