well after a good few thousand miles of trouble free running , the 221 got stuck in 5th gear last night , it reset with a switch off , im going to plug in when I get a few mins here at work but I suspect I will need a replace the conductor plate , why this issue didn't happen before I did my gearbox service  , cars huh

this doesn't look a bad job to do ( even if its a repeat of doing the fluid / filter ) the only thing I can see of concern is not breaking that pipe / fitting as you wiggle the valve body off , any tips for making sure I don't ??

When I first bought my s211 320 CDi , the first repair was drop the valve body and send off the conductor plate as I had speed sensor fault and 2 other codes showing.(I did get it cheap!) this is the 722.9 trans btw

I would advise looking on YouTube as there is a video showing how to remove, just be very careful with the selector bracket as I could see you could break it very easily!
Just pull the valvebody carefully and slide the selector out of the way.

Keep a roasting tin near to collect all the bolts as you work also don’t wipe anything down with rags or paper towels just soak in clean cheap atf

Before you strip the valves off take decent photos with your phone, of there position, for reassembly!

Look for any crap in the ports of the valves.
also as an after thought, whilst you wait for the conductor plate to come back, I would make sure and test all of the valves are operating to within tolerance.
Also pop the valve block apart very carefully to check all springs and plungers inside
Just Wish I took my own advice!!
( make sure you do it in surgically clean area! With lots of clean atf around)

Package it in a thick plastic bag before boxing, just package it well!

I found when I got it back and reassembled they obviously had reset the adaptive adjustment, so tbh needs to be manually set via star, yes you could try the ignition, throttle dance but I sure it don’t work!

Since I’ve fitted mine I’ve gone from 121k miles to 174k miles in around 2years
I’ve changed the fluid once since I had the repair and there was a little discolouration but not that much.

Yes it did solve all of the problems I bought the car with but I still have some crap gear changes when cold,
I also get some shuddering when hot so looks like I might have to sort the TC, but on the other hand it’s not happening that often, so can’t justify sorting it atm.

Tbh I wish I striped the valve block down and checked the solenoids to rule out any problem with them.
Next time I pull it apart I will take my own advice!
Also take you time, keep warm and use something to support your neck!
Hope this helps

Good luck

Aren't 7g conductor plates coded to the vehicle and only obtainable by an indy?

Not suggesting you broke something Pal. The main brain looks like an internal melt down???? Could be wrong but worth checking before you spend time and money on a repair. F70CAF8A-E4B8-465C-A69B-8572BD4AC70D.jpeg

I wouldn’t give it any thought pal , when you refill , cycle the gears at the right temp , the level will be correct :D
