91 W126 300SE Almandine Red
Hi there everyone,

I'm a long time MB fan hoping to soon become a first time MB owner.

My father drove Mercedes for around 60 years. He could never afford the new ones but he always seemed to find absolute gems when buying a second hand one. My favourite being the 3rd of 3 successive, near identical 300SEs all in almandine red. It was a 1991 and he bought it in 2001. There were 30,000 miles on it and I remember the passenger and rear seats were still factory firm. I'm determined to find that car one day although someone once rightly said "sure that's probably keeping cattle out of a field somewhere"

My intention is to import (UK-IRE) a Merc and flip it, using the profit to soften the cost of buying an E-Class estate ('15/'16) which I'll also be importing once the first car is sold.

I would be very grateful if someone could direct me to a thread covering estates, if such a thing exists. I've spent months on AutoTrader but there are so many terms, I don't really know what I'm looking at(AMG Night Line, 9G/7G, Premium Plus, Tronic Plus, BlueTec etc etc etc).

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers,

Reg

Hello and welcome

Depends upon the year of “E” you’re after 2015/2016 was the change over from W212 to W213. W213 is a very different beast and a peach with in 220d guise with the 9g box. I’d go for an SE as they have real leather rather than “Artico” fake leather.

Hi Reg and welcome.

7g/9g refers to the auto gear box - older cars have 7 gears, newer ones 9 gears. AMG Line/AMG Night Line/SE are just varying trim levels. AMG has more sporty body kit and wheels but doesn’t go any faster than SE. Premium and Premium Plus are differing levels of options - these can vary between individual models and years so no set rules about what is and isn’t included.

Welcome I have a 212 E350CDI 2011 vintage, with about 57K miles on the clock.
Very reliable only one minor issue. Don't be put off by the 3 Ltr V6 engine I get 48 MPG between services.
Its possibly worth about £11K now, thats a lot of car for the money. And no its not for sale.

Welcome Reg.
Lots of good advice here and the only thing I can add is when you come to search for a car, take a look at this site.

https://www.autovillage.co.uk/

You can enter the model into the search engine and refine the search by price or location. The site lists almost everything on Autotrader, MB main dealers, independant dealers and some private sales. Its a useful search site.
