Best thing is try it, Range Rovers are infuriating but get under your skin.

That would put you into om642 engine territory for the 320cdi , whose faults are well documented . Don't know if the 420 is still om642 ?

they do indeed , although mine has been pretty well behaved , thing I need to be aware of is that the rangey will go just about anywhere if needed , I don't know what the GL's ability is like

I had a 5.0 Autobiography and, to be honest, it was far and away better than the GL63 I tried at around the same time.

Quieter, comfier and a lot more refined. I know that the Rangie gets flak for reliability issue but, get a good one, and they take some beating. Mine never let me down in the time I owned it, though it was well looked after with full service history.

I love Mercedes as a lot on here know, but for out and out style then the Range Rover wins hands down against the GL as far as I'm concerned.

ive just spent a couple of hours looking at both on fleebay , a 2010 MY RR is cheaper or similar price to the equivlant GL so I don't think moving to one would be worthwhile

would a GL be a worthy replacement for my Range rover. what about a decent used G frankly i dont think the other benz models are real 4x4,s i like the swb diesel , i had three of them, really wish i had kept the last.. and in terms of 4x4 there are no bolt ons needed they go places the rest dream of AND come back .

I feel a G would be too utilitarian for me pal , I never liked the defender

If its any use to you, or anyone, I have an old 2001 ML in good condition and it is very good off road and is reliable and seems very solid. The later GL I don't know.

I had a 2001 ML and it was surprisingly capable pal but it was never in the same league as a rangey , i doubt a GL has every been used in anything but a bit of wet grass :D:D

I agree, the RR is a better car unfortunately!

Strange that you were considering this question in October and now your Range Rover is smashed. Maybe there's some solace in the idea that you were considering a change anyway.

Hope the insurance folk do the decent thing.
