Insurance and deceased driver

Just a word of caution.
My dear wife passed away in late November, one of the list of tasks to complete was to take her name off of my RAC insurance.
After doing this online through their web portal my premium (monthly) went up by just over £11 pm.
I tried to query this with online chat - obviously it’s not just the increased premium but I didn’t need complications at this time after my loss.
I had to phone them directly to cancel the policy as I had found a more competitive one. Although I finally got the desired result and the agent did the right thing, I could have done without this.
Something to check maybe? Although these circumstances will be rare I wouldn’t want anyone else to have to do this at a time of grieving.

At times like that you want everything to run smoothly and without issue or complications. Pleased you’ve managed to sort it, they don’t always make things easy.

Sorry for your loss. Each little element of administration is painful at such times. Big corporations are badly lacking in human compassion. It's nothing personal to them, it's just numbers. For loved ones, it's intensely personal. My thoughts are with you and all the people who will be without someone in their households this Christmas.

Sorry about your loss.
My dad paid a small amount each mth
by direct debit to cancer research but after he passed away a mth or so ltr
we got a phone call from them requesting if my father would like to
increase hi monthly payment, I said he had just passed away and the agent never said sorry for your loss but straight away asked would I like to set a debit up ,
Again not very compassionate.

When my mother passed earlier this year, she was sent letters from Royal London regarding an insurance policy which was paid monthly and not surprisingly, the payments had stopped. My sister phoned to explain the circumstances and that our solicitor was dealing with all matters of my mums estate, under duress she was told she was responsible and had to set up a direct debit in her own name to pay the monthly installments and her credit rating was at risk if she did not do this.
Our solicitor had to speak to a senior manager at Royal London before they rectified the situation, but never were any apologies or condolences offered.
My wife and I had life insurance policies with Royal London only recently started which we cancelled immediately and will never do business with them again.

I'd be interested to know on what legal basis Royal London held you responsible for continuing to pay your mother's premium. Sound like total BS to me.
I was an Executor for my wife's and my parents' estates and the cock ups made by various organisations had to be seen to be believed. Several had to pay compensation to the Estates. In the case of Nat West bank it cost them over £1200 to return £150 which was left in my father's account. Halifax have their own department which deals with deceased's estates but I found them to be the most incompetent of all (another £1000 to the Estate). Like others have said you really don't need hassle at times like these.

My Mum had a couple of old policies with Royal Liver which had transferred to Royal London and I have to say they were very easy to deal with. Took my word on the 'phone that she'd passed away and sent a cheque to me, no faffing about with death certs etc.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I know from recent experience how difficult it is for you and your family. Last year we lost 3 of our parents within 8 months and had a lot of different companies to deal with. Most were very efficient but some were quite poor. A special mention to Lloyd's Bank who were really understanding and helpful, the opposite of Santander.

As already said use the Tell Us Once service, we found it quite useful.
