W166 GLE350AMG Line 3.0 2017. BMW Z3 2.8 1998.
Took the invite to see the new LR Defender at the local dealers this evening.

Difficult to get decent pics with people around.

First impressions, it looks better than the Discovey 5. Had a play with the electric deployable tow bar, as I do. It is a good Kerb Weight to tow a big caravan with. Well received by the farmer set.

Drinkies and nibbles too.

Only the 110 is available as pre prod being touted around.

If they last as long and preform as well as the old defender they will do well , or will it be another electrical
nightmare and not stand the abuse once farmers start to put it to real work and throw calves and tubs of water in the back.

It’s a Discovery not a Land Rover. And at that it’s quite nice.

Electric tow-ball, let me know how that will get on after repeated wading... way way way too much electrickery for serious off road work.

As far as looks are concerned I think they miss the mark by quite a wide margin. Don't like it at all. However I understand that it's capabilities are awesome :)

They’re calling it a Land Rover but it’s not and that’s all I was discussing. It would have been much betterer if they’d called it a Disco and they’d be getting a lot less flack over it.

not being funny as I have not followed up on the new model or know enough about it. Just to update me.
Why is it not Land Rover. all previous models were such as l r defender, L r discovery, L r evoke etc.

Friendly not criticising.

Land Rover was always a vehicle in its own right, just with different chassis lengths. To capitalise on the popularity “Land Rover” was made into a brand rather than a model.

Range Rover was just that, it’s only recently that it also became a Land Rover Range Rover which is just messy, but fits the lifestyle brand which is what they’re selling.

My Land Rover is a “110 County Station Wagon”
“Defender” is just a marketing ploy to make it a separate model so the Land Rover name can be abused for all of the plastic tat they’re flogging these days.

This new model in no way other than vague shape at 1’000 yards is a Land Rover (or Defender in marketing speak). It has too much electrickery, plastic bumpers and no separate chassis.

It will be much nicer to drive than the previous Land Rovers but is much closer to a Discovery than a Land Rover and should have been marketed as such.

I’ll get off my box of soap now

Had another go £71,723 with a 2.0 turbo Diesel 240bhp engine in.

Extras are very steep - £173 for rubber mats!!!!!!

Wheel arch protection and a raised air intake on costing £1363, not essential but look good

Santorini Black with Acorn Windsor Leather interior starting with HSE Spec and 7 seats

They would have to throw the rubber mats in and the obligatory brolly of course.

Leaves the field open for Jim Radcliffe to fill the lower end of the Land Rover market with a reliable Defender replacement.

Can’t get over the irony of this but pleased there are people around who realise what’s required worldwide, something at the right price point, maintainable (in a ploughed field) rugged, and very reliable

Basically it's a disco, not a proper landrover. It'll never catch on. Folk are still reeling from the change to coil springs in 1983.

I know a farmer who can get 6 sheep in the back of his 90 (stacked).

Can't say it will be of much interest to us, we have two defender 90s, a 1996 300Tdi and a 2012 XS 2.2 station wagon.. Can't say I have any plans to sell them anytime soon.

The Grenadier is going to be built in Bridgend behind what is currently the Ford Engine plant
