Ignore them, they’re talking about smarts not SLK’s...

Mid engined .... open top ..... flappy paddles .... course it's a sports car! :D:D:D
Is it mid or rear? My Fortwo convertibubble was rear engined. Not quite the same as my 911 but almost

In what way is my SLK300 not a sports car? How are you defining a sports car?

Never mind the popcorn and armchair, I'm going to bed, it's too late and this discussion could go on for ages - bit like an oil or tyres thread!:D:D:D

R172 250CDI Gone..!, R129 SL500 Gone...
Mine's a roadster. It may look like a sports car but I have had "proper" sports cars and this 'aint one.... It is a beautiful looking car that I would be happy to cruise along in all day across continents - top up or down. I wouldn't want to do that in a sports car...

No diesel engine car can be classified as a sports car! :alien::coffee:

Helmet on!
My thoughts entirely, but I'm too much of a gentleman to point that out.;)

I've been lucky, I've owned and/or driven many cars some of which I would call sports cars. A Triumph TR6 comes to mind, also a Spitfire, Porsche 912, Sunbeam Alpine, MGB, MG Midget and I fail to be able to differentiate between those and my SLK. Good power to weight ratio, no creature comforts and sharp handling. I don't know whether my car is poverty spec. but I could never see myself driving long distances in it. For me it is four wheel motorcycle substitute

If you're including a Spitfire & a Midget, then I'm definitely including the Smart Roadster :D:D .... your two cars could have only dreamt of 80bhp never mind the 101bhp of the Brabus ;)

An old B-Class.
Mind you I once bought a V8 mid engined aluminium bodied 4wd convertible......

Horrible things to drive.....I drove a few many years ago in the army---IIRC the gear stick is behind the driver....and everything was very sloppy because of the extra linkages for the forward control.

I agree - but how would you classify a 'SLK 55'.
That is a sports car, with better suspension definitely. I did a track day at Caldwell with the IAM, I was in my 911 and there was a SLK55 there, in the bends it looked like it was going to tip over it was leaning so far. My 911 was flat and I just drove around the outside. Looking at the photos from the day afterwards my car looked like it was just parked on the bends, only indication I was moving was the wheel blur.

I’d like a late SLK 55 with the 5.5ltr engine but I’d change the suspension.
