You keep making that statement but don't elaborate. What, in your opinion, is a sports car?

Horrible things to drive.....I drove a few many years ago in the army---IIRC the gear stick is behind the driver....and everything was very sloppy because of the extra linkages for the forward control.

I loved it. Surprisingly quick and great fun.
Mine had 16 forward gears and 4 reverse (though in reality you could only use 10 forward and 2 reverse).
Gear changing was an acquired knack....

Mind you I once bought a V8 mid engined aluminium bodied 4wd convertible......

Drove those in the army. Fine loaded but you had to be careful unloaded.
