Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting some H&R lowering springs for my 230ce. Has anyone had any experience with these?

I've read that the springs can be a b*****d to remove so will definitely get the compression tool from eBay.

Other than this is there anything I should be aware of? I was planning on sticking with the original shocks, will this work? Do I need to change spring pads?

This is how it's sitting at the moment but just fancy it a little lower IMG_3369.JPG

Any advice appreciated!

As per above, there are many different spring pads which could give the same effect

Nah, slam it bro, lower the better the coupe is a cool looking car only made cooler with a 2" drop ;) :D Looks like a 280 from this angle.
If you're hands on you can make a coil compressor like I did, a substantial threaded rod, with nuts and 2 steel plates with holes drilled through the centre for the rod to fit through. I removed the front springs from my W116 using these. The rear springs are easier when you drop the shock nuts or bolts off and for the rears, I have used the standard Ford type of clamps, but care is advised when doing any type of spring removal!!

Yeah I hear ya but figured changing the springs is easy enough to change back if I change my mind

What spring pads could I go for to give me a slightly lower look than stock?

When I looked through for a friend a few years ago I think there was ~23 different options...

Hey thanks for the advice. What about the shocks? Reckon I can keep them stock with H&R springs?

Above the springs is a rubber pad. It will have 1,2,3 or 4 burls (raised rubber lumps) on the side of them. The more burls the thicker the pad. Each burl represents 5mm thickness over the previous one. Because the spring is inboard of the wheel that 5mm gives around 8mm ride height difference.
So.. ifl you have 4 burls change the pad to 1 burl. That will drop you around 1".
The pads are available from MB and much cheaper than springs.

I lowered my W108 by cutting the coil spring, but left the front shock standard
You cut the coil spring... you don’t drive a saxo with your baseball cap on backwards so you?

Smart + others :)
Back in the day, mercs were lowered cheaply by cutting the springs and standard shocks, so you still had the smooth ride. It was done for looks and not for performance. Don’t lower too much on standard shock as the spring may drop out on full suspension extension.

See below Blobcat :p:p:p
Anyway, when did you see me driving up the backside of the car in front and weaving in and out waiting for that once in a lifetime opportunity to over take with an on coming vehicle coming  :D

Yes I can certainly relate to that star :D
