Peeps. Looking at getting new tyres(front 18 inch)imminently. I drive a 2007 E320 cdi estate. I'm probably looking at mid range. What would you guys recommend. Thanks in advance. J.

There’s so many good brand mid range now it’s hard to say what’s
Best , there’s continental from £65-75 which is very popular, or bridge stone in the mid £60,S. But some have told me they are a bit hard. Perhaps something with a softer wall may be your best bet.

Uniroyal Rainsport 3 are superb.
Also Falken FK 510.
I have Uniroyal Rainsport on my r129 500SL and Falken on my r230 SL500.

:rolleyes:Very broad topic this!

Obviously, it’s a bit of a compromise - grip vs longevity vs noise vs price and more...
I’m a fan of the sharks^^ (Uniroyal RS) but I like Dunlop’s too ...
Be aware that the ratings refer only to new tyres - some tyres performance falls off a cliff once worn, in my very humble opinion.
Call me an old cynical git if you must...:D

I had these on my Honda 3.0 V6 Coupe and although if you go by the EU Rating they're not so good, I found them to be excellent in the wet and dry! And a good price!
And this was a bit old powerful American Honda so you needed something substantial. And they were 18's the same size as below.

I think I paid £250.00 at Formula 1 for 4 fitted.....

If that were me I would match them with the rears. I don't go for mix and match tyres at all :) You even see some that are mis-matched on the same axle FFS

You must always match tyres on an axle, a front to rear mismatch is no problem

That said, it does my head in....I nearly had to get Pirelli’s for my rears and Bridgestone on the fronts which would have played with my brain somewhat.
I did remember we had some thread on here with some mismatched front and rears causing handling issues , I’ll see if I can trace it- as you say though it’s very uncommon :)

They maybe a little out of your budget but I have found little to no compromise using an all season in this case Michelin Crossclimate+, in the summer and they come into their own at this time of year.

It is putting directional front and non directional rears that causes problems, oddly the other way round is fine, all to do with the way they clear water

I had Cross climates put on mine a couple of weeks back and I concur, the care feels much more planted with them than the previous (although they were cheapo Nexens put on by the dealer befor eI bought it).

The RS5 isn't in general availability yet though and not in all sizes. It's also an unknown at present.

They will be going on the front of my car when the time comes to change them
