My 2005 clk 220 has started to pull slightly to the nearside when braking, more noticable at speed. In traffic going slowly on a gentle curve could see the steering wheel twitch when dabbing the brake.
Had a seized caliper last year but no syptoms like this, any ideas?

Have a check of the suspension ball joints on that side with a good lever.

could be lots of things

low tyre pressure (or different tyres)
sticking pads
sticking pistons in the brake caliper
fluid leak
contamination on the pads
worn wheel bearing
worn damper
suspension wear and tear
road conditions

thought of another....

the inside face of the disc can get LOTS of corrosion - if you drive gently and infrequently - the inner face gets massive corrosion, going black and flakes of disc can literally fall off... all the while the outer face (one visible from the road looking inside the wheel) can look like brand new with insignificant wear.

as I apparently drive like a brainless, crazed lunatic. jumping on the brakes for any reason whatsoever just so I can catch out safety systems, one would think I have never had this odd condition - but I have - lots of my cars have had this issue. The cause is a bit strange, when I ask tech's still playing, they think its a case of damp from the weather and heat from the engine creating an odd climate that is much more of an issue if not a daily driver. My last 3 cars have had one side looking like new and one you won't believe the dangerous state its in. Without the car on a ramp and or being able to see past the inner disc guard it can go un-noticed but if 3mm is missing in random sections of the inner disc face it does tend to give judder (although amazingly how little) and a tendency for braking performance to be impacted….

Did this bloke ever have an MOT, or did he do 200 000 miles in a year?

had a mate with a Vauxhall Magnum we were driving along and under braking he gets a little shimmy, then tells me he's lost the brakes... the caliper was sound, the pad stopped the disc no problem, but corrosion of the disc meant it stopped whilst the rest of it went round and round on the hub....

Happened to me too on a Mk4 Cortina.
