I've finally taken the plunge to replace the head unit. I've never felt the ancient sat nav was manageable and the little screen surrounded by buttons looks quaint but not very practical. The new Alpine one will communicate with my iPhone, so Sat Nav will just be an app. I've booked it into Unique in Lightwater (Forum sponsors) :) for installation early feb.

Sounds great. Is it just the head unit that is being replaced or also the amp and speakers? What is the model of the head unit?

Presumably you will lose the ability to set the dashboard clock but that's not a big deal. What happens to the car setup that was done on COMAND?
That can be sorted by removing Comand via Star I believe.

Put my Ctek MX-5 to work today for the first time since I bought it.
Haven't used the E63 for a few days and yesterday was -3c and the Eco ligt took ages to even appear for me to turn off. Usually a sign voltage is low.

Started by checking the aux and main battery with a multi meter and the aux was reading 13v engine off and the main battery 12.3v.
I spent about 20 minutes attaching the comfort lead to the + and - terminals of the main battery for future charging, then starting it on an AGM setting recharge.

Checked 5 hrs later and the whole set of lights were displayed indicating a fully charged main battery. I took a note of the battery Part# as this being a Sept 2014 model, its probably on its original battery so could be due a new one at some point soon.

There probably is a reason why Varta Bosch and Exide to name 3 brands only give a 3 years warranty on any new AGM battery:(

Roger, convenience battery in mine went in 2018 and that was also a Sept 2014 car , so yours has done ok!

Dropped mum's C250CGi off for an A service.

I noticed the rear lights were dim so mentioned it as possibly the dreaded melting plug and it was so both are being replaced.

Also needs new disks and pads on the front, they quoted £300 but will do it for £260 a I am such a good customer. I can buy Brembo parts for £161 off ECP and my mechanic friend will fit them "for a good drink".

It's probable there is a replacement aux battery already fitted then John. I didn't take the clamp off to check the date, and don't have any parts invoices given to me when when I bought it, just the service printouts.

As mentioned, only giving a 3yr guarantee on any AGM battery does point toward the expectation it won't last long
