Hi,

Circuit board can be removed but be careful as the infa-red sensor is on the very end and is very flimsy.

I did this and managed to snap it off and had to have a new key coded !!

Do you have a spare key and does this still work?

Yes, you can get it out carefully - looking at your pick I expect water damage on the circuit board where the plastic has cracked

Hi no, only one key.

By this you mean that you had to buy a brand new key. Can you use a second hand one from another car and have it coded? Was that expensive?

Didn’t need to buy a new key. Had someone come round and code a new key whilst I waited and supplied the new key. It was the better stainless steel key aswell.

Cost £150 and was still working a year later when I sold the car.

Cheers

Not as expensive as I thought. Are they nation wide?

No the guy I used was MIlton Keynes based.

I’m sure there are others though depending on where you live?

The fob had a CR 16 and a CR 25 in it. Been in there for 4 years, no problem. Put in 2 CR25's, correct I believe, nothing. Put in a Cr25 and a CR32 now works, so maybe the fatter battery makes a better contact. Well I will wait and see. I have ordered a new key outer to replace the cracked one. Thank you for your advise.

No you can't use a key that's been coded to another car.

Thank you, all back to normal now, but what I meant was can a key from another car be recoded for yours?

Keys can only be coded once. You cannot recode to a different car.

Quite lucrative for MB then ...... :coffee:
Yes, if you break or lose your key...
Although I’d rather have it that way than anyone easily recoding a key and taking my car away...

You could re-code a Vauxhall key for my Omega, but you needed a code from a 'key card' that originally came with the car to do so ..... you couldn't just use AN Other key fob to use in my Omega.

You could also get engine fault codes without a reader ......

MB just make things difficult

Yes, but that’s been superseded now. The newer keys disconnect. There will be a new scam though, there always is.
