Hey guys. So I currently have a w203 2005 c200cdi. She is literally my pride and joy. My family car hut also my toy when I want to make love to the black top and burn -a little rubber! I love her to bits and really am starting to put some tlc into her comestically to bring her back to her to pristine. I love her and won’t ever give her up! After wanting one for 14 years and then finally getting one, she’s a big member of the family.

my question today is, as I’m also looking at swapping the turbo, inter cooler, updated injectors and remap and possibly fresh changes on the timing chain and tensioner etc, how much power can you put through these automatics gearboxes? She’s done 175000 miles and so far hasn’t skipped a beat, but had anyone pushed the limit on these gearboxes to know what potential they can take?

Not much you can do to a 200cdi that'll mash your gearbox.
It's alao used in vehicles with much greater weight/torque than your's.

There are a number of variants of the 722.6xx gearbox with torque capacity ranging from 330Nm to 1000Nm.
On the outside of the box will be a marking like W5A330 for 330Nm. W5A580 for 580Nm, etc.

Theres also a cross reference to the 722.6xx numbers here:
https://sportlichleicht.com/info/transmissions/722_6

The 7G boxes have W5Bxxx and in the main are 700Nm.

Looking up figures, a 2005 w203 c200cdi claims 140nm and 0-60 of 11.9 secs.
Move forwards to a 2007 c250 cdi and claimed 500nm and 6.8 secs
I wonder if the costs of uprating a c200 might exceed what a c250 could be bought for ?

A very good point, and all the remapping and bigger injectors in the world won't give a C200 diesel even an equivilent figure.
Also, at 175k miles I wouldn't want to be putting extra power through the engine or transmission.

OP, save your money and put it towards a car with a better performance to start with.

My old w203 did 273,000 miles and it seemed fine giving it some beans … They do last - in stock form.
I didn't do the 273k would like to add...

Thanks for the replies! Ok, I’ll look at my options and weigh up cost etc and see what my options are.

My problem is I don’t actually like the c class above w203. So it’s either that or save for a c32 or c55

I don't like the interior of the w204 pre facelift.. Its that huge slab of plastic in the centre... But the facelift is totally different .
the power difference between a c220 203 and 204 is quite a lot though.

Get a C55 it’s only going to appreciate in value now

Finding a decent C32 without rust problems is becoming quite difficult. I'd look at a C55 too if I wanted to step up from a 220.

Agree with you there Rodger, I like the C32 if you can find one but I’d always think what if I had just bought a 55,
Then again you know me, I’ve a soft spot for the M113
