What will the gov tax when they loose the revenue from fuel? Plus think of the job losses, no oil changes, no air filters to change etc etc and the queue at charging stations at m.way services will be massive. :(
Expect a future filled with toll roads or tax per mile (thank you ANPR).

But you won’t be able to buy them either...

Not new at least ;)

If we think back just half of 15 years, Tesla didn't exist.
In a short space of time they have made massive generational bounds in battery tech and market share etc.
Market share is currently at 2% and doubling every year.
With the political will it will easily be achieved.

Very easily achieved with almost unlimited funding from the US taxpayer by a company that has never made a profit.

A very "manufactured" success imho.

The Wright brothers were credited with the first powered flight in 1906 just over sixty years later man landed on the moon. Amazing progress can be achieved if the need/will is there. This can also happen for EV and the infrastructure to support them. I'm no eco warrior but I hope we can sort some of the worlds problems out (climate change). Personally I won't be going EV until I can get 500 miles out of a charge and charge fully in 30 mins. I also love the ICE and I wonder if someone will find a commercially sustainable production of synthetic fuel? I also heard this morning that the UK aviation was committing to zero carbon by 2050 and I'm sure the 'expert' interviewed mentioned non fossil aviation fuel.

I think it refers to pure petrol/diesel vehicles and not hybrids.
Cue a number of manufacturers developing token hybrids that can drive the minimum acceptable distance on battery (they're called mild hybrids).

I have just been listening to Jeremy Vine about this subject and one of his guest's has said that it does include Hybrids so enjoy your V8 whilst you can. 15 years when you are this end of it is a long time and a lot could/will change by then. It will be interesting to see how the haulage industry is going to deal with this.

Well, I'm very glad that I'm not one of the naysayers who went heavy on short-selling Tesla. They're burning their fingers now, and there's far worse to come as Tesla continues to consolidate it's gains.

Taxpayer funding and political will go hand in hand ;)

I'm no Tesla fan and think they are vastly overpriced similar to Uber but they do show what can be achieved.
The tax-incentives are a drop in the ocean in comparison to the contribution made to the US economy.

If it was a UK company employing 45000 people, how would you feel about a £250m tax incentive. £5k per employee would still be a tax net gain.

I understand all tax incentives have been repaid anyway.

You might need to wait 10 or 12 years,
but I'm sure it will still be low mileage if you only use it on the island.

PS, yes we are.

In my opinion i just dont think its the right direction they need to go in. Also it doesnt help that right from the very start the government encouraged the sale of diesel cars massively.
So its all in a bid for the UK to reach virtually zero carbon emissions, so what about the technology behind the batteries. Or the machinery to build the vehicles and the shipping of the vehicles, also additional electricity required to charge the vehicles one way or another we arnt really going to solve the issue.
It'll be a temporary fix like what happened when the big push for diesels happened.
Also i like some electric cars and hybrid cars but i just dont think this is the way forward imo

Can anyone honestly say they think our climate has changed in any way during their lifetime?

Many can say it... what they mean is probably something else...

"Since records began" that grinds my gears, the planet has been around for ~4 billion years, we've been keeping records for ~200 years or ~ 0.00000005% of the time... pretty meaningless when expressed that way...

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, the latest announcement by the government is nothing more than a good intention

It all seems a bit fishy to me.

Over the last few years in the uk we have been bombarded with these climate prophets like Extinction Rebellion, Greta Thunberg and now David Attenborough.

There collective message is radical in nature. WE are harming the planet and soon it will be too late. We are all doomed if we do not act now.

Not long ago they would have been branded nutcases.

Instead these "Rebels" are embraced and promoted by those in power.

Now that is strange, very strange. I smell a rat.

It's no worse than any other approach.
Hydrogen for example is often mentioned as a better alternative but hydrogen is commercially produced from fossil fuels (95%) or by electrolysis of water (4%). The first doesn't reduce dependency on fossil fuels and the second is less efficient than generating electricity directly for batteries.
