Yes you can :)

A mate sent this to me a couple of months back, he works for a company (which will remain nameless) and drives one daily, in and around the Fens.

He says he didnt realise how close he was to the edge of the ditch.

He had to phone to be rescued as he couldnt push the door open from the position he was sat/stood in due to the weight of it, thus couldnt get out :D

The only stock vehicle which can drive 45° IIRC

DSC_1720.JPG You can also crash a Hagglund.
They can also go 45 degrees.
Mine was on Morecambe Bay about a mile off shore (tide out). Hagglunds are about the only vehicle that can drive over quick sands.
The driver misjudged how close he was to the edge of a channel.

Fond memories of driving a moggie. We used them for towing Chinooks for a while.

You can drive a Land Rover at 45' straight up or 40' across a hill. I've done both... the 40' is worse as the suspension tilts to the downside so it feels a lot more than 40'

I saw a couple of U500 in salt spreader configuration on the M62 yesterday (on a low loader). A Unimog would most definitely be in my fleet given the available folding

That is true, I have done both in a Defender. I do not particularly enjoy the side slope experience, I am always reminded of the guy who put his rear wheel in a rabbit hole at one of our trials, and rolled seven times, his seat back and harness saved him. (He was in a soft top modified series three). Fortunately the air ambulance were quickly on the scene.

The thread title is misleading, that Unimog has not crashed, it has gently tipped over, easy to recover and no harm done.

Agreed, I'd cheat and self recover by putting the passenger side outriggers out to lift it back up
