If you bought a diesel.... ;)

The OP did, and I'll guarantee the remap was done for performance, not economy:D

I'll own up and admit I don't know a great deal about diseasles but I believe there is a map that will increase economy. Whether that is at the expense of any performance I don't know.

There is, it uses snake oil instead of diesel...

..then you would have spent more than the skinflint buying the cheaper petrol version.

SLs don't come as a diesel (for a reason).

If you buy for outright performance you buy AMG. All petrol (for a reason). All dearer than the parsimonious wallet clencher diesels.

Of course there are some people who are willing to pay for diesel derived technology such as very high compression, direct injection & particulate filters in a petrol engine so not all petrol engined cars are cheap and poorly engineered.

You never know one day petrol engines might even begin to approach the thermal efficiency of a diesel engine. But probably not.

My point was how would the insurance company blame it on you?

You had NO knowledge of it, because it wasn't you that remapped it.....

You could equally argue that the headlining colour had been changed from standard because it didn't match the previous owner's poodle... You would not be in a position to know because you've never met the poodle...
Esure and it's group of companies are employing this very tactic to weasel out of otherwise valid claims, BUT, they are classing 'modifications' as modifications AND optional extras above base spec. You know, like metallic paint, climate control instead of the standard air con etc.
Worse than this, if you go through a comparison site, you never get to see this distinction. It can only be found if you do a quote from scratch on Esure's website and click through to more information about what modifications mean. Or if you read the mega policy. Which I did after buying the insurance. But thank God it was within the 14 days, so I could cancel with only a £50 admin fee or whatever. A price to pay for a lucky escape. MSE forum and others have horror stories from this group of companies. Went with Direct Line in the end.

Whilst doing my trawl through the small print for quotes for my annual renewal recently, I was surprised that not all cover panoramic sunroofs - Esure was one and M&S on their Standard policy. I had never thought to check before!

If you want efficiency get an electric motor.

Connected to a random power station every 100 miles. Not very efficient.
Tesla now claim 370 miles, but practicality isn't the same as efficiency.
If you really want efficiency get on a bicycle. One of the most efficient machines man has made.

Funny how that's your only argument. It's actually been hailed as a clever piece of brand marketing and regarded by some as modern art. It was used as a dummy payload to test Musk's rocket. If you need to launch something disposable why not?

You may want to check out HCCI and HCSI petrol engines. Virtually zero PM or NOx (without catalytic converters) and low fuel consumption as well.

If you want to believe the Elon Musk hype then lap it up buddy. Personally i think he is full of it. On the balance of probability it was faked. So much easier.

As for modern art then yes i can see that as being valid. It was a good piece of performance art probably carried out using a green screen/ CGi.

The meaning though (which is the whole point of art) what could that have been from someone like Musk whose sole concern in life is money.
