Hi all,

My car is really noisy when setting off and now the yellow management warning has appeared on the display. Basically performance has dropped off but this used to sort itself out before I had the warning issue. My code reader picked up P200A. When looking under the pipe that connects the two air filters there seems to be oil on the left hand side indicating a leak and there is a smell of burning oil.

Any ideas what's causing this and could it be the reason I have a P200A fault?

Have in indy Merc specialist in Swindon but they are rip off merchants.

Thanks,

Adrian

It needs a proper read really, Not sure what P200A translates to, but its probably in limp mode due to inlet port shut off motor.

That leak looks like its from the breather pipe seal that goes into the air inlet tube, hard to see from the angle though?

Is the first part an easy fix or does it need a specialist with star system?

As for the leak I think I can trace that and sort it with bignair filter pipe removed.

Thanks for the advice.

Changing the motor isnt particularly easy, but does not need star. I would get it diagnosed properly first before getting that motor changed.

Out of interest where is the motor located. Can you post a photo of what it looks like so I know what to look for. I am concerned that my local Indy will make up something just to get more cash out of me.

Inside the center of the engine, in between the inlet manifolds. Its a turbo off type job, fairly labour intensive.

A quick google for "v6 cdi inlet port shut off motor" gives this:

Thanks for the quick reply. Way beyond my mechanical ability as in would expect removing turbo is not easy and requires correct torque when bolted back on.

Thanks again.

Its a tough job, bolts need to be replaced and access is tight.

They are one time use bolts. If you reuse them they snap................

On a 212 350cdi the turbo does not need to come off. 3.5 hour job.

Once again many thanks for your advice. I will get a diagnosis done first as you have recommended then proceed from there.

"quick test" for faulty motor can be done (without SDS) by unplugging motor and putting right size resistor in harness connector. Usually it is still quite limited space for job.

No not yet. However i did get a professional Delphi diagnostic system on the car and came back with mesage about bank 1 can remember exact message but will post when i runnit again. I called a specialist in Gloucester call Autotrans as it might be related to fluid needing a change in automatic gearbox.

Just had my car scanned again and the codes are as follows:

1268 Charge pressure positioner - intermittent

126A Inlet port shutoff - intermittent

Went to local independent in Swindon who said it could be either inlet port shuoff motor knackered usually due to oil dripping on it or the butterfly valves sticking inlet manifold. They said £400 + vat to remove and investigate and probably around £1000 to fix totally depending on what's found. Seems a lot so getting second opinion. Not spending a grand on an E350 with 188000 miles on the clock. Fingers crossed the second opinion is much cheaper.
