Fitted a set to my Subaru , waste of time and were removed soon after.

Beam scatter was horrendous , constantly getting flashed by oncoming traffic , fitment was a PITA and had to adapt the retaining spring to clear the cooling fan , could not refit the cover at the back of the headlight causing condensation.

Replaced them with decent halogen bulbs .

An old B-Class.
Try the Osram nightbreakers (not LED) they are excellent and you will also have legal headlights.

As above.
Fitting any other type of headlight bulb is illegal.
If it has H7 filament bulbs it must have H7 replacement filament bulbs and not LED or HiD.

Think I’m going to look for a decent set of projector headlights. Led isn’t the way to go.

Thanks for replies fellas

LED is the way to go, and going there fast. As long as the car has them out of the factory you can do so much more with LED like adaptive high beam etc

LED are like ABC. Lots of advantages when they're working properly but serious wallet pain when not ;)

I’m sure that is the case. I would wager that from a dealer my headlights are probably around 1.5k a pop.

For the OP LED is not the way to go - it is an illegal retrofit.

That is absolutely correct. I have had LED kits in cars before and it diabolical. In fact it was borderline dangerous, and definitely worse than H7 bulbs.

LED's are not just illegal but they also invalidate your insurance because they are not type approved - don't give them the excuse not to payout when you need it.

Projector headlights? Can you get them for your model?
I have reflector headlights on my Kia Soul, and they're very poor.
On my 12 year old MX5 I have projector headlights, and they are exceptional.
I know headlights - whatever the type - vary a lot from car to car, so that is no definitive opinion, but just a personal observation.

fitted a decent set to the focus.

much safer as they don't pop every day like normal focus Mk2s headlight bulbs do
no one had ever flashed me in 2 years of use
beam pattern is very good
its about 500% safer to drive at night as you can see where the road actually is
the focus does have a shield in front of the bulb so actually less violent to other road users than Merc LED set up
have had the car follow me up the road and drive directly at me at night, no issues whatsoever... they ought to be legal to use if the std vehicle gets the shields otherwise I agree could be dangerous (like Mercedes ones are)

Yes those are what I was referring to in post #4. I put them in my wife's car and they are a marked improvement - I suppose it's 2020 bulb tech vs 2014 tech. However, we will always have people that insist that their illegal modifications are acceptable.

I've always thought that was the general idea!

Problem I've found in a low-slung car is the car behind with brilliant lights. Smacks you right in the driving mirror - and even if the mirror dims, they are still too bright for comfort.
