Hello Everyone, My cruise control stopped working and i had this same problem a few years back, for some reason i cannot look back through my previous threads, i hope they are still available?
However i can remember that the last time i changed the foot brake switch and this solved the problem, i also had a situation where the cruise control was surging and the power jerky, on that occasion i had to change the front near side speed sensor, the front brakes were serviced recently and the calipers removed, could this disturb or damage the speed sensor? I have had no dash warning lights on for ABS etc.
Is this correct? also why if the foot brake switch is operating the stop tail lights, then why would it stop the cruise control from working? or are there two switches operating from the foot brake?
In the past my close departed friend Malcolm (Television) used to give me this information, i also remember Dieselman and Frontstep. Any help will be appreciated. Herbie.

The brake light switch is 2 switches in one.

If you're not getting any ABS fault then the recent brake work won't have disturbed the sensors. The W210 has a machined hub if I remember correctly, so no issue of it being misaligned like the more modern, flimsy reluctor rings.

If I recall correctly the brake switch has a speed signal pass through one of the switches and the brake lights through the other. Being cheap it is usually a first port of call to replace.

Many thanks Blobcat it was the "or this" last item. Do you know why the site is not storing member's older threads?
Also thanks to you other guys, i like you am sure it will be the dual foot brake switch. Herbie.

All the threads are there, it is the search facility that has amnesia :(

Hi, Guys, it was the foot brake switch, thanks for your help, it is just a pity that the invaluable threads history system is not working. Herbie.
