Dpf cycle

I suspect my dpf cleaned today. I could smell it when i got out of car . I could hear a noise like a small pump. And hear lot of tinkling hot exhaust . I didnt see anything on the dash. Is this normal, couldnt find anything on this in the merc app manual.
Ps it has stopped this now and it goes faster?

Sounds perfectly normal - and no, there isn’t anything in the manual (or wasn’t for my last diesel anyway).

There is nothing on the dash that shows up, even when dpf is 400% full.
In nearly 2 years of owning my w204 ive yet to hear a dpf regen, but it must be doing it as when i check the fill level its always good.

At what fill point does a DPF regen? as I have never heard that info if there is a point at which it regens? I heard of driving at certain revs to get a regen? is it 2000 or 2500 RPM?

I have only ever felt my regen once. And that was because my engine light came on, so I plug her in and it said soot accumulation this was caused by a faulty differential pressure sensor anyhow instead of taking her in to the shop I cleared the code filled her up the went on a 50mile trip with cruise control on set to 60 mph in 5th. When I got back I lifted the bonnet and the engine was that hot I couldn't touch the plastic cover and could feel the heat it was like opening a oven. That was 2 years ago and it's never been back on.

At what fill point does a DPF regen

I believe it starts at 100% . It will do it at 30 mph if all conditions are met.
If it triggers a warning light like engine management then it wont regen and has to be forced .

Thanks Rappey, Just cleaned my Dpf so keeping an eye with the icarsoft, currently its at 50% with 150 miles since last regen. I thought fill level was rising very quick for the miles? I am only doing short runs ATM with the lockdown, only message I ever got about the DPF was in centre of cluster "drive at high engine speed" I never had an EML related to the DPF.

mine definitely did one the other day, for home from shops and it was smoking (which it doesn’t normally do o course) it also stank and car smelt hot....left it running on the drive and after 5 mins had gone away and back to normal...but then I’ve used half a tank and 200 miles in the last 2 months...I normally do 700 miles a week!!!

Mine will regen every c400 miles if using cheap ASDA diesel and c300 miles if using one of the premium diesels and regen is triggered on the DPF fill level reaching 100% every time, if a regen is interrupted, the DPF starts to fill again on restarting at the level it was interrupted at until the next 100% trigger.

Herewith is a single frame report from my icarsoft MB V2.0, line 10 of 14 indicates the % fill level of the DPF, the report was generated from a DPF live data stream.

If your car is a w204 then nothing shows on dash to tell you anything concerning the dpf.
My pressure sensor failed, filled dpf to 400% and still did not put anything on the dash !
The plug in mb icarsoft 2 device will show you percentage full of ash and soot.

As said, ive never heard mine regen and it would be something i would notice..
When engine is hot, about once a week i just floor the accelerator in say 2nd gear until it changes up then resume normal driving.. I swear that keeps it clear?
