ACCELERATOR PEDAL 1997. W210. E-300 TD.

Hi Guys, Can anyone explain how the accelerator/throttle system works? I am asking this as i have developed an issue with a little surging/jerking on low speed take offs. I have a throttle position sensor on order but i am not sure if this is the offending component, in that i have been asked if my car has an accelerator pedal position sensor? I know some of the Mercs do have one. The only thing i can see at the base of the pedal is the kick down switch.
It would be great to know how the whole system works. Any help will be much appreciated. Herbie.

Open the bonnet and its bolted to the top of the inner wing with three ten mm nuts.

Hi Doug, I know where the throttle sensor is as i just took a pic of it to order the replacement, my thread is asking about the accelerator pedal and if anyone knows how the whole system operates.
I see you have the exact model i have and wondered have you experienced any probs of this nature? Herbie.

Pedal just pulls on the cable and actuator responds by varying voltage to ecu which it uses to work out pedal position.
Never had any trouble with mine , you can measure voltage given out by them to test but with another one on the way its easier to wait as it only takes about two minutes to replace
