The "beep on my sl was not loud at all. Just enough to be aware from 20 mètres when locking car. That thing has internal batt the Benz organize to leak all over pcb. It's 100 to replace.. No??

I imagine you made a noise louder than the siren when that fault revealed itself. It's vexing to find silly design faults in a fine machine.

Ah this is a new development - there's a battery somewhere?

My old Saab 95 had one stuck under the wheel arch which was a right bugger to get to but was cheap to buy

The battery is in the siren.

If it's any consolation, the battery in Vauxhall's 'power sounder' will leak too ... they've been known to start a fire too

Understood. But, with little effort these could have had batteries that were replaceable and designed such that the defective version did Not leak all over the pcb.... Another Dtf in fact I think it should be MBDTF 500 not MB 500. Sure other makers similar.

Fairly inaccessible then?

That figures - stops easy tampering but makes for expensive replacement

Update - tested the alarm and whilst the indicators flash rapidly there is no other alarm

So the sounder battery is a goner then?

Almost certainly. About an hr at home job. Loose wheel jack up, liner out. Think 10mmspanner socket job and one plug, memory not great but that's about it. It's the £100 that hurts, just so you hear a beep on locking, if it gets nicked those guys will know how to disable it, keyless go towing switch or even alarm off switch.

Is that not the alarm siren then? I get no sound at all when alarm is triggered.

No siren , no horn nothing

If it was just the beep wouldn't bother

Thanks for response

The locking beep is from the siren.

Had a look today and there doesnt appear to be an option to disable the beep.

I could always send you my siren when I replace it?

That doesn't make any kind of sound!

If you buy a new siren from Merc 99/100 it is set to Europe, and will beep three times for lock and once for unlock. You'll need Star to switch it to uk, and no beep.
