Hello and welcome

You can’t have both unfortunately :(
You can have a cdi or an AMG.

AMG only make high power petrol engines - the 55 is particularly nice.

I guess you’re looking at 250cdi’s nice cars and good value.

I’d take one for a decent long drive if it has 18” wheels on as they do nothing for the comfort of the drive.

Check there are no leaks in the boot under the carpet and trim. The roof should drop and raise in ~22 seconds.

Check it’s been serviced including the ATF (auto transmission fluid) depending upon the mileage.

Why would you want a 2 seat convertible "sports car" with a diesel engine - many (me included) think that's a bit of an oxymoron! Unless you plan to do high mileage, IMHO you'd be better looking at an R171 or R172 3L+ petrol V6 or V8 - I have an R171 SLK280 3L V6 petrol and the engine is superb!

Airscarf is a must, as is the wind deflector, full leather heated seats, and if poss memory seats (the only part of my wish list I missed out on). Also try the ride compared to wheel sizes - my 171 on 17's is a bit firm and I'm contemplating changing to 16's, I've seen that on 18's it's very firm.

70% 0f the SLC's sold are 250d's, I have one moved from a SLK200K.
SLK 32mpg, SLC 50mpg overall so far. SLK £300 road tax, SLC £30.
I quite like diesel engines, plus the SLC is quicker.

But the noise... And the smell... And the non-sports car character...

R172 250CDI Gone..!, R129 SL500 Gone...
The diesel SLK's /SLC's are a bit of an embarrassment with all that torque and no turbo lag .... Things to look out for - OM651 engine - check for timing chain rattle on start up. 18" wheels and the AMG line suspension is lowered 10mm and no the most comfortable of rides so test drive on less than perfect roads to test whether you can stomach it! I don't mind it but passengers of the female variety might! You'll spend your time dodging non-flush drain covers and potholes..!

Oh and if you get one, turn off the start/stop function every time you use it...

OM651 did come in AMG Version, (Increased Power), it's like everything on MB, an Option, basically a 2 Stage Turbo 651 with a remap, appears as SA Code M014 on your Data Card ....

My W212 Wagon has the full package, about the only option it doesn't have is Pan Roof which is a bonus where I live due to all the Rain and Leaves, the Pan Roof Drains are prone to block ;)

As said above, AMG 'Line' is just a trim level in a diesel, t'ain't an AMG, never will be. Nice though. The engine 'increased performance' option does NOT make it an AMG....

I'd say you can't get better than our SLK r171 for performance with 306bhp on tap (unless you say SLK55 AMG then you need lots of money for those) it does go quite well and corners good too, only the ride comfort is compromised with the 18" wheels and flaming pot holes in the Fenlands
If I had the chance to sell the Missus SLK I would, but she was against changing it for a r172 50mpg 250 CDi SLK, her response, 'Err diesel' o_O

I really love my 280 on 16" wheels, makes a very nice noise and is fast and comfortable enough on the roads we have, rather than the roads we wished we had...

I'm becoming more comfortable with my 280 on 17" wheels, still haven't really driven it enough to fully discount changing to 16's but time will tell. Love the V6 engine though, and although it's theoretically 20BHP down on the 968 cab it replaced, I find the V6 3L more responsive than the 968's IL4 3L, exhaust also sounds nicer - and it's more than quick enough for our roads, have not yet floored it but even 3/4 throttle had SWMBO's eyebrows raised and "advice" given!!:shock:
