Had an A service today...Dealer can't reset indicator..and want £109.80 to investigate Help

Hi Guys...This is the 1st time I've had a bit of a glitch with Esplanade Isle of Wight....I had an A7 service and MOT today...all ok except they have left me with this message every time I start the car:

It says : Service B overdue by 5100 ml

They recon the car needs a software update at a cost of £109.80...

I have been on google and there are lots of u tube video's on resetting the service indicator...but I thought I'd check with you guys 1st

Ok, never seen that fault on a 205 but seem a few 213’s where you reset the service light on/for the 5 service and it resets to say 30,00 over due. An update on power train sorts it.

I struggle to understand how a software fix to sort out a failure in the original software can be your cost.
It's a factory defect.
Microsoft would get torn apart if they charged for service packs and bug fixes.

There's also the argument used by car manufacturers that they own the software installed in your vehicle which further gives strength to the argument of why you should pay them to fix something they claim to own?

They want to have their cake and eat it I think.....

It's just the start of more dealer/maker crap. Now as well as whole assembly purchase to get rubbish sensors we have things that fail to work properly AFTER a dealer service!!!! Next we will need to buy a set of the rubbish quality wheel bolts when we only want one.
Yest took ml w166 out of garage, after 4 months. No wipers!! Not fuse, prob looking update!!!!!!

Just tried to do the reset myself...ignition on position 1 press phone call button and ok at the same time...ignition on to position 2...scroll down to assist plus...select service reset...confirm by ok...and it says unable to reset...according to u tube that should work...but it does not for me...the service menu says 364 days to next service...but also says service overdue by 5400 miles.....Crazy....

Just emailed the service manager:

Hi Matthew…

I have a problem…I had my A7 service and MOT done yesterday…The technician was unable to reset the service indicator…I have a service plan in place…and included in the service is resetting the indicator…its showing overdue by over 5k miles…

Leslie said It might need a software update to allow it to be reset…I cant get my head around being asked for £109…

Microsoft do not charge for updates…and if the service indicator can not be reset without an update…then surely it should be done FOC…

The indicator was working perfectly…by informing me of the due service…and should be doing the same now…

Please investigate for me as a valued customer of Esplanade…

I've found them to be extremely helpful and they may have a solution for you.

It was amazing how fast customer services & the dealer principal got in touch with me after Emily tweeted the pictures of the battered side of my car while in the dealer's care .... :rolleyes:

They wouldn’t issue a recall for such a small fault that doesn’t show on every car but it should be done foc. Like I said above easy fix if it’s the same.

Your problem may be that Esplanade don’t appear to be a Mercedes franchised dealer so they have no way of doing the update free of charge unless they will take the cost themselves for a valued customer.
