Anyone seen this before? Local garage changed the conductor plate on my 2006 SL350 after it started sticking in 3rd when in 'sports' mode. Has 51k on the clock and had an ATF oil change 350 miles ago. The sticking started before the oil change. On putting everything back together the car won't select any gear although there is a slight rev drop when gears are selected it's just not 'biting'. Any ideas anyone?

As above or plug not fully in pilot bushing, a bent pin in the socket, oil level incorrect.
What was the oil like when it was changed, did it smell burnt?
Oh and was the plate a MB part or non OE?

I take it they aren’t an MB independent garage ?

Did they change the pilot bushing too? Most possible causes have been covered, I think it is incorrect oil level. Was filled and checked at the correct temp? Any fault codes?

POSs not fitted valve chest correctly, or put the solenoid valves in wrong place or not aligned selector on valve chest with lever.

I'd trailer that down the A3 to PCS in Horndean and let Olly fix it.
The original mechanic has made some kind of expensive mistake putting it back together. I wouldn't be using him again.

If it was sticking in gear prior to the oil change, did you have a diagnosis carried out? As it seems you have paid to have the oil done twice now.

Only happened once prior to the ATF changed and then it happened again a week after the change with an 0715 code thrown up. A bit of research later I understood adapter plug and conductor plate potential issues. Low oil level caused yesterday's non selection problem she's back on the road now and all well so far. Is the float on the conductor plate only there to trigger an 'ATF too high' alert? There was no Engine Management Light or OBD11 code thrown up by the low level ATF.

No level light or warning for gearbox, star might have shown slipping gears tho.

they rang you up and said its all gone wrong..... then later discover they didn't put enough oil in... that does not compute - animals out of their depth

not sure how u can fix for a sensible price, but I want it taken out and put back in by someone competent

I always thought the float was there to stop oil foaming ?

Update for anyone having the same issues I had. The car's now at 51 500 miles (400 miles on) since having the conductor plate replaced and no issues at all. Having gone through replacing the adapter plus first to no avail and then the conductor plate my advice to anyone with a sticking gear issue and inability to change gear mode selector from Comfort to Sport would be get them both done at the same time to save on costs. Kits are freely available and replacement is about and hour and a half's worth of labour plus ATF costs. Well worth a punt before trying anything more drastic on your gearbox.

Had similar problem, not changing gear etc. Indie in Mansfield replaced the electroplate for around £450/500 since been OK and that was 7 years ago.
