2016 GLC - SAT NAV SOFTWARE ISSUE HELP NEEDED

Hi All,

Recently purchased a 2016 GLC here in Ireland in addition to my own EClass. However it was imported from the UK from by A Garage for me.

When picking up the car the dealer told me that he ordered an SD card for the Sat Nav as it was missing.

The display is saying insert to insert the SD Card with software (will post a picture with exact display later as its in for a valet)

The dealer then rang back this morning that the Local Mercedes Dealer said that the car when it was first sold in the UK did not take the option of the Sat Nav extra and that because of this it cannot be configured at all now regardless of inserting a new SD card.

Can someone advise if this is true regarding the option even though its asking to insert an SD card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob, search on here for build sheet from VIN for the websites where you can donwload the build sheet for your car, that will tell you exactly what the car had factory installed.

I am assuming this means its retrofitted for Sat Nav and that it can be installed?

That's correct. Not sure on the GLC but in other models there is a cradle in the glove box to take it, they used to be Becker Map Pilot if I'm remembering correctly? Comand Online would be able to help, forum sponsors and advertise on this page

Thanks John, ours is in the holder in the centre console. Il get onto the dealer when the cars back from and advise him of the build sheet. He can get onto Mercedes Ireland to sort it out as effectively he sold me a car advertising a feature (one of the selling points) that it doesnt have.

I have a 2016 SLC with a SD card navigation. On my build list it says 357 SD Card Navigation.

I used to get the occasionally in my W213 I took the card out and put it back in again and it worked fine. Bit of vibration and it had lost the connection between the card and the contacts.

And benz dont know there can be vibration in thier cars !!!!! Well thought out design ,again.

Make sure you have the correct SD card as during 2017 they changed the software.
And the two cards are not interchangeable, as I found out on my mid 2017 C300.

355 would be the wiring / cradle for the aftermarket module https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...1313&_nkw=mercedes+becker+nav+module&_sacat=0

and you might get the card slot hole... regardless, on all non comand systems?
but getting the message is intriguing, I doubt if you have the cradle for the aftermarket becker unit, you'd see a SD card missing message.... (unless Mercedes were lazy on the software...… and you get the same message to say card or becker unit isn't plugged in).

Il have a root around the car to see if there is any module or connection points for the module. You are probably right it may need the becker aftersales module. Seems abit trivial i know given we all have smart phones now where google maps is live and more up to date but its a nice feature to have onboard especially when i was sold the car advising it was already there and that only the SD card was missing!

no I get it, a phone I have to plug in, with a baby screen full of reflections falling off the dash with a dodgy signal is not my idea of progress

Just be careful with the Becker - Mercedes switched to Garmin Map Pilot a few years ago but I can’t remember when so it may be the later system you need.

That was going to be my next question, is there anyway to tell when the change over to Garmin took place at factory installation/provisioning.

looks like 2015 was the last year and the GLC isn’t mentioned but I can’t find anything about when Garmin started

Hi All,

Emailed MB Ireland this morning and explained the above issue to them and the Build Sheet Code etc.
Just received an Email reply from them and they have advised that all that is required is an SD card for the Sat Nav.

Happy days at least that issue is now resolved. The garage i bought car off of will have egg on their face when i tell this.
