Just bought myself a very nice R230 SL350 and looking for a forum to join up to.
Realised I'd been on this one before from years back and my user name was a reference to a then run of Smart 4-2's (Had 4 from early LHD to late model new one around 2010).
As to Mercedes my first was a C220d estate having left company cars after about 20 years and using my own cash all my searches, wants, positives, negatives and scored/ranked listings led me repeatedly to Mercedes and I admit I was slightly disappointed never having 'liked' Mercedes before. On having one I was a convert......
After the C220 I've had an early CLK convertible, a few E class a CLS (one of my favourite cars ever TBH) and a couple of later CLK's too.
I'm back into Mercedes as I own my own convertible as my weekend car as an alternative to my company cars. Started with an MG-TF and in last four years that has seen 2 x TF's, the 'logical' shift to an MX-5, a new Fiat 124 (Mazda dealer just didn't seem interested in my cash on a new one...) and then an Abarth and then more recently a new BMW 220d. The BMW was perfect, SWMBO loved it and it did everything it said on the tin extremely well but........ It was a bit 'bland' really and I admit the diesel in a convertible was a mistake on my behalf.
Search was on for a Merc SL. Initially skirted with R107's, then R129's and finally settled on 'modern' SL as more suitable for my needs and wants.
Was looking at late model R230 and early R231's, Sl500 or SL350 and a few leggier SL400's. Prefer the naturally aspirated engines and my search ultimately led to the one I purchased after 'kissing a lot of frogs' along the way.
Will post some pics and no doubt ask a few 'newbie' questions along the way but will do some reading and catch-up first
