Sunroof drains on VW are prone to gunking up. Actually there are only two sunroof manufacturers in Europe for any volume (and one of those is Valeo) so the issues seem across marques shouldn’t be surprising.

Watched Paint dry!
Day one getting the old Rear spring out, and rubbing down surface rust on Subframe. And rust converting any affected areas ( needs 24 hours)
Day Two Spraying The Upper Carrier frame with 4 Coats of Hammerite
Day 3 Getting new special nuts, and pulling off Masking tape.


And inside of course


Question as this has the best part of a 400ml can of Hammerite on it with the requisite 15 min wait beteen coats. Of course its a bit soft, (finger nail dent test).
Feeling embarrassed it has taken 3 days to change a Spring (20 min job without any rust repairs) Note MB wanted £320 Labour!
Do I leave it overnight hoping the paint will harden Some more? ... knowing Hammerite I reckon it will take 7 days to set off properly.
As this has to get done, think I will just wait till tomorrow (and not raining) and then put the Spring in, (comforted by the fact that where the spring locates, the original paint was totally intact) making it 40 hours!

Pretty sure it will squidgy the new paint where located!
But hell this isn’t my pampered CL500, and I am not up for a restoration project! Well not in the A Class. My theory it lasted 18 years with just the odd bit of surface rust .... so should last another 6 years after doing this. And with only 60,000 miles and Mobil 1 every 3,000 to max 5,000 miles .... the next owner has a winner

Well yes, but that’s standard... I was thinking more along the lines of free tea and coffee or early finish on a Friday

Was lucky never had any in my Vdoz 230 but loads on here have, on a car costing 50 90k!! Never had any in any of my fords. A bit in a mini. But that was a 68 car I believe.

The vdoz was never outside in the rain!

I sure yr oldie will give u much less bother long term than my vdoz. And less bother/cost = more pleasure, for me anyway
