Hi all... I signed up on this site ages ago, however our automobile situation has changed somewhat so I never did the Mercedes postings that I had intended.
However the one thing that remained constant is my wife's W210 E200K, now 20 years old. It has seen off several challengers, including a Land Rover Discovery 3, a Defender and an EV Renault Zoe. It has quite literally never let us down.
IMHO if you want to do something, do it right - go Merc. :-D
This ancient tank of a car is LHD, was originally ordered for an Iranian doctor who was doing courses in Germany, however was sold to the head of the surgery dept of the main Bucharest hospital. He had it for about 7 years, using it mostly to go on holiday to Greece. We picked it up with 24k miles on it in 2008, and have used it ever since.
We had let it sit for about 6 months when we moved back to the UK, however our relative who was supposed to occasionally run it about didn't do so... so when we returned to bring it back (packed with our important/valuable stuff as well) it started to have major issues with the gearbox. Driving through Eastern Europe in the middle of a blizzard with the gearbox going was somewhat stressful, but we were able to force it into gear manually with the steptronic feature and limp on back to the UK. It had developed other issues along the way that would've stopped any lesser marque.
When we arrived in London, we brought it to the nearest specialist who was amazed it made it, as the gearbox seals had shrunk and there was next to no gearbox oil.
About to embark on our second Mercedes ownership, ditching the Zoe (the car has been so-so, but Renault's build quality is quite poor and dealer support has been abysmal) and looking at a C300h estate. The missus has dictated that next car 1) must be Mercedes 2) must be hybrid and 3) must be second hand, so... lots of reading to do and questions to ask!
