Air Filters OM642 40,000 miles

Here are my two air filters, (I'm going to cut open my same age fuel filter soon) 40,000 miles.

I change mine every couple of years at the most (max 15k miles )

Although looking at the back they've done they're job. The car didn't feel much different, although am I right in thinking the OM642 takes a while to settle down after they're changed?

News to me , I always think I notice when they are just changed

There is a reset option for air filter is SDS

I change mine annually

I'd of washed them and dried them out. Another 15k in them mann.

I think its just 1 of the many service numbers you get up on the dash using the steering wheel buttons.

You can't reset adaptation values by dash. Like said SDS do it, dunno if other scanner can. It is not very known feature, but it should be done always after filter change (according WIS)

Can you post up this wis document. I've had 5 mercs now and always changed my own filters. Never had to adapt anything .

It is like MAF adaptation reset, 95% does not know it

OK. I've read a bit about this and as far as I can gather as the air filter gets dirty the air fuel mixture is altered via the maf to optimise fueling . If a reset isn't completed the car continues to fuel as it did with dirty filters. Some believe over time and calculations by the maf and ecu the car will relearn itself , weather it does or not I cant say .I've never ever noticed any difference whatsoever after changing air filters and not doing this adaptation. Good or bad .

Pop them out. A few smart whacks against a brick wall and reinsert is often all that's needed.

Had about 5 cars now where it as been restricted do to air filter blocked no fault on dash shows up on xentry and das just down on power once changed and reset on adaptions big notice on driving. Always reset when carrying out service

I think it makes a difference if old filter have bee driven to 'fully blocked'. Official 2 years is true, but for some reason these engines suck inside everything smaller than squirrel on the road. That's why I do change always with oil change.
