I have tried the search but found no obvious answer, I have just swapped all the filters and oil in my E270 W211 and used quality Mobil 1 oil, some forum posts I have seen change the oil at 5000 miles, the car says somthing like 12,000 miles and I was going to change it every 10 to 12k. When in the office its a 20 mile trip each way so she gets nice and warm so what interval do people suggest?

Also was my choice of Mobil 1 good or would the Genuine Mercedes Oil be batter or on a par?

The car has covered 157,000 miles

Some will say yearly, some will say 6 monthly, some will say more often (I change mine yearly)

Many will say use this (I do)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20L-Genu...208925&hash=item467b85d3ad:g:AggAAOSw1Tdb0Dyh

Some will say use Mobil 1

Just make sure it is MB 229.51 spec
Thanks for your reply JBell, great price on 20l on your link, think I will go yearly or 12k what ever comes first and may try the Merc Oil as I did get a good price from Edinburgh Mercedes on their Ebay site, but engine done gearbox and diff oil change next payday

As long as the oil spec meets 229.5 (229.51 also good) it is good enough.
I've used Mobil 1 for years but more recently bought 20 litres in a handy container from MB Newcastle (via eBay), that's a Petronas oil.

For me servicing every 12.5K miles is fine and I don't mind if that's every 2 years(ish) as it was for Mrs Me's Gr Cherokee.

Thanks Martin for your reply, I did get a great price from Merc of Edinburgh on Ebay but had already ordered the Mobil 1 but will give that a try next time, got a good deal off Euro Car Parts for Fram filters but tried a Mahle Oil Filter this time

Just my opinion, but I think 5k is excessive. I've had cars with 5000 ml intervals and cars where the interval was stated as 20k; both Peugeot.... one had done 160k and the other 250k when I parted company and neither had any obvious engine problems, so I am happy enough with my E320 which calls for service at around 10k.
I think any branded filter is ok to use. There are YouTube videos that dismantle filters and say this is better than that because it has more filter material etc. And there's at least one person on YouTube who advocates changing the filter half way through the oil change interval which I think is unnecessary. Filters get better with use and filter best just before they block and then the bypass should keep the oil flowing.
Like I said; just my opinion.

I totally agree 5k is a short change , for me though that is about 10 months time wise so not far off a year service schedule which most people stick to . It’s about £25-30 for the oil and filter so it’s so cheap to do .
Dare I say it I enjoy doing it as well

Fully synthetic oils don’t deteriorate like mineral oils so 10k miles or every 2 years is fine IMO depending on use of course a lot of short journeys 5k miles or 2 years. Engines run a lot cleaner nowadays my BMW OBC gives a 20k duration after an oil change not that I leave it anywhere near as long

Having a M271 engine and doing lots of short journeys 5 000 is my go to mileage, though this year I may have to do it sooner due to lockdown mileage.

I also feel its like patting your dog on the head after doing an oil change, to thank your car for loyal service, but that black mess takes some getting off the skin, had a mare when I just changed my oil, the bucket I was catching the used oil in must have gone brittle from UV and decided to split, what a mess

Your spot on there malcolm 210 with fully synth oils, in fact cars are just far better than a few years back, I'm 54 and growing up had bikes mainly but had some original minis and Ford Escort Mk1 try explaing setting the points etc to the youth of today and from memory think my crossflow was puffing oil from about 80k onwards that was if the body rot never finnished your motor first

That looks a nifty set up there blobcat, was it expensive?. Even more appealing the thought of not having to get underneath and take off all the covers especially with my arthritic knees playing up
£12.99 from Lidl if I remember correctly. I have a Pela vacuum pump as well but that won't be getting much (any) use from now on.

You could sell the Pela to your old buddy Geoff

Yep, an extraction pump is the way.
Pela do a 6 litre pump, that's manual suction pump not electric. I think you can get larger.

Late for this messy change but the 2.7 CDI would have an oil quality monitor. If you see the obd counting down to next service, it goes up a couple of thousand miles or so when you top up some fresh oil. It's was nice back when cars could say thank you.
