What did the Lexus cost vs the Renault......:)

£1500 v £150 respectively......no break downs, no problems :D
However my other son is buying the Renault Laguna of me, he's seen the light Renault v Vauxhall Vectra. No brainer really :)

I not surprised at all.why have I yet to change sensor on w208 or ? 2 on r230 and with w166 its already had adblue sank n sensor, around a grand and hope to be shot if it before nox sensors. Benz MUST have found the CHEAPEST source that statistically makes the warranty period...

Just to put things into some perspective, the gap from 1st to 29th is about the same size as the gap from 30th to 31st.

Everyone should be glad they don't have a Land Rover :D

(Unless you do )

I'm exceptionally glad I have a Land Rover...;)
I don't have a Range Rover and Evoque or a Discovery though as they're an absolute electrical nightmare

I wonder if it includes ownership/dealer experience too - my dad's KIA at 5 years old made a funny noise in reverse so my dad enquired if that was normal - salesman replied, not normal, but on that model some of the clutches had a bit of a fault that could start with a noise so no worries, we'll replace it under warranty FOC - my dad did not ask or threaten or hint just literally enquired even saying "it's probably nothing", etc.

My dad has just bought a brand new Mazda 2 - clutch burns and judders only when reversing up the drive - and it's not driver error as my mother and brother do the same too. Strange as it drives OK forwrads and in reverse, just not up a hill. After two visits and much complaining (they all do that sir, can you make it do it in front of me, etc) they've only just agreed to take it in, drop the clutch but warn if they can't fault it they will put the clutch back and under no circumstances will they replace the clutch unless there is some obvious fault (surely once the clutch is out it's peanuts to put a new one in just in case?!)

Now by the two examples both would go down as a warranty repair of a clutch of a similar cost but which one has caused the grief and unreliablity? To think he scrapped a perfectly fine and reliable 22yr old Yaris which could reverse up hills for the Mazda 2 as well....

I had a Mini 1000 many years ago with clutch judder on take-off and eventually decided to take the clutch out I found the offending item a half spring washer in the crud at the bottom of the bell housing the washer had dropped out from between the friction plates and new clutch plates solved the problem. In your fathers case it may well be the rear gearbox mounting that’s the usual culprit if the car only does it in reverse

If you want to be seen in a Lexus.....:);)
We ran a 13 year old Lexus LS400 for a year. It had 135,000 miles on the clock, cost £1300 plus a major service and belt change. Ran it for a year and 9000 miles with absolutely no problems. Such a lovely car to travel in. Sold it for £1400...
I would have another in a shot.

Yep I ran a SAAB 95 with 130k plus on the clock for about a year. Spent nothing on it and sold for what it cost me.

Does that make it a good car?
Was I lucky?

The 9-5 was actually a very good car, it’s just a shame the company folded :(

A lot of people thought that the LS400 was an extremely good car. Including me.

For me the Lexus product just leaves me cold. I had an LS200 back in 96/7 when they first came out. Although it was different and caused a lot of interest from passers by it had one or two things I didn't about it, the steering didn't centralise, and the engine was pretty gutless considering it was a 2.0ltr 6 potter. It actually drove me back to the Audi product which is saying something. But that was mainly to do with MB and BMW for instance not being on our company vehicle list.

The worst car I ever had was a 1.3 Maestro by a very wide margin. Fortunately it was only a courtesy car

Did you have the battery that would fill itself from rainwater running down the windscreen?
It would then overfill leaking acid into the battery tray and rust through the bulkhead... first you knew was wet passenger footwell...
