Did you do an HPI check on the car? If not I would do a check now. I would also check that the VIN on the MOTs matches the VIN on the car.

The dealer is trying it on or he is to thick to understand that what he has provided is not proof of service history.

I did do the hpi and the vin does match.
The dealer is saying that the car has been serviced just not necessarily by MB. I then asked why they are MB stamps in the service book? He has not replied... :(

Ok so let’s say the car has been serviced ( I know it defo has been serviced recently because I bought it from the garage and they service cars daily)... I understand some people service their mercs from independent garages to save money (the MB service is costing me £600+)...The car is fine at the moment but I am going to have an RAC advanced inspection carried out this week. would this bring up any issues with the car if the car has any?
If not, I guess I will keep it. I have no intention of ever selling it anyway.

and if any woman ever says to you she does not need a man to buy a car... don’t believe her. (Unless she knows about cars of course... but come on..)

He’s asking what exactly is proof of service history? He’s asking where in law does it say that you have to be a verified dealership to stamp service books? Aw man :(

It’s very unusual to have stamps in a service book that don’t have contact details back to the place that did the work. I mean, what’s the point of stamping it if it can’t be verified? They haven’t even put a date on the first service! It’s faked. It’s rare for salvage vehicles to come with any paperwork. Often the toolkits are missing too. The car must have been serviced somewhere. It wouldn’t have got to that mileage if it hadn’t. It’s had brakes and tyres replaced too most likely, so there probably was a paper trail, it just became lost when the car was damaged and left the former owner. A few years ago you could find the previous owner from the v5 and get their side of the story but thats more difficult now with enhanced gdpr or whatever its called.
Ask the dealer to tell you what filters they replaced, because he has neglected to tick the appropriate boxes. If they have just done an oil and filter change it might be worth getting the others done so you know it’s as good as can be. I’m sorry I was the one to give you the bad news.

Putting this all into balance, Sara, you probably have a perfectly good car but you just need to get it checked over to be sure. Get the RAC to check it over or take it to a respectable Mercedes Independent to get it looked over properly and any outstanding services matters dealt with. Let us know where you are and we may be able to recommend someone to help you.

There is no online record for DC Motors so I don’t think you are going to get anywhere with him unless you want to go down the route of court action - which I wouldn't advise unless there are some really bad hidden problems with the car.

edit... and it has passed the MOT which would have picked up obvious problems.

Every car that I have ever had serviced has had a stamp in the service book that details the name and phone number of the garage doing it. That is for every service. Usually the work done is also mentioned, either with ticks in the boxes or written in if there are no tick boxes for the work ie cambelt change etc. Those stamps in your book are not like anything I've seen before in service books and in my opinion are there to deceive.
But, in the name of sanity try to focus on the fact that you have bought a sweet car and it will serve you well for many years should you choose to look after it.
If you have it serviced at a Mercedes main dealer I believe I'm right in saying that you will then benefit from reinstating Mobilo ( if I'm wrong someone please correct me!) which covers you for breakdowns etc until the next due service. The service from a dealer could be expensive but at least you'll have the confidence in your new car.
That way you can make a fresh start with the car and forget what seems like a somewhat shady dealer.
Try to put a positive spin on it and enjoy the car for all the reasons you first bought it. :D

Why would a finance company go outside the MB network for such a new car.

MB would be less than enthusiastic with warranty claims.

Finding out from MB where and when the car hit the UK would be a good start.

As with all cases like this information is king,

who you bought it from and their standing is perhaps the most important question.

Then payment methods did you use a credit card in the process ?

The car is clearly not what you thought it was when you brought it,

but extracting yourself in the best possible way is what should rule your thoughts.

You might also have legal protection Insurance somewhere.

Don't rush into legal action it takes ages and you rarely come out even when you factor in all the elements.

If you buy a car with FSH that is what you should have and I am sure the assistance you so far have will continue.
The ethos on here is generally about fairness.

As a start;

Oh no no you did the best thing to inform me about this all. The dealer is willing to give me a full refund. He rang me saying nothing is wrong with the car and he serviced it himself and that he is willing to pay for the MB service himself if I want to keep it or he will refund me. I trust him

That sounds like a good outcome, if he’s willing to pay for it to be serviced at an independent Mercedes specialist and that they do all work that could have been missed from previous services I’d go with that.

The initial MB service is costing me over £600 as it has no record of ever been seen by MB. They are saying it needs service A.

I would take the refund ASAP. This dealer cannot be trusted as the service book is clearly deceptive and he knows it.
Take the money back and buy another. Don't forget if you ever sell this car, you are really going to suffer price-wise!

Just to be clear, a proof of service history is either a fully stamped service book which details the name and contact details of the servicer or a paper trail of service invoices from the servicers, or, more likely in your case, a print out of the digital service records held by Mercedes.
Your duplicate book is not a proof of service history because it hasn't been filled in correctly. No Mercedes dealer would use that stamp and unless the seller has the previous invoices he cannot prove the history.
However, as my previous post, try not to go down the rabbit hole of chasing previous history that doesn't seem to exist.
The only option that I might explore is to get in touch with the finance company direct and ask them if they have any knowledge of the cars past records.
I've not had a car on finance or lease but I would imagine that having the car serviced is a condition of the finance agreement so they would be the best bet.
But when you start finding yourself getting frustrated or annoyed Sara, give up the quest and just enjoy your lovely new car.

Just read this! That's a good result! Now it's up to you to decide if you want to keep the car or not.
Personally I would give it back and go and buy another one elsewhere armed with the knowledge that all the good people on this forum are here to help and give advice.

I don’t know if I will find another this new and low mileage. The rest of them are like 2015 plates and 15k with similar mileage...
Thank you guys so so much... I’m going to mull this all over, speak to the dealer again, ring the finance company and then see what to do.

Good! If you decide to keep the car take him up on the offer of the Mercedes service and get them to explain the benefits of Mobilo to you.
Good luck Sara :D

I don’t think I will ever buy a car again. It’s just too much stress!
But you guys have armed me with so much information I’m very grateful.
I have come across an MB monthly payment offer if £33 a month for regular services. In future I think I will go with this...

I'm not sure if that includes the discount offered by MB at the moment. There is 20% off servicing but you may need to ask for it. There is a thread on the forum about it :D

Ooo where is this discount? I thought I had to pay monthly to be a member or something to get that discount? Seriously like where is this discount? I’m gonna search this whole forum right now!
