Hello, as you saw from the title, the car won't go to 7th gear even when forcing it. Transmission has worked quite well except rough change from 2nd to 3rd gear when engine is cold. When the car has warmed up, it changes smoothly. But what could be the problem? Solenoid maybe?

Car is w212 e250, if that is any important information.

Thanks in advance for any help, it is needed.

I'll look up for it if I can find it, but I know for sure that every maintenance has been done at Mercedes-Benz dealer.

Unfortunately that might not have been the best way, these boxes were “sealed for life” when first introduced therefore never had a change, the common thought is to change every 40k miles or two years to keep things fresh and moving.

If its not shifting there is likely an existing fault code logged best to get that code . After that an oil filter change a good idea if no recent record avail.

How you know it wont go 7th? By tiptronic (or flaps) it shows 6th as a highest, it is normal. Rough change is due to old oils or some physical in box, like said.

First of all, thanks a lot for your quick responses. Luckily everything went well and the car was left at the dealership for maintenance. Due to quick changes I had throughout today, I wasn't aware what was going to happen to the car and that's why I asked for help. But anyway, here's what happened:

Dad was driving an one hour trip to another city. On the way he got pulled over by police. Just a routine check they did. Before this stop everything was fine and it surely used 7th gear when cruising at 90 km/h. Now after the stop dad said that the revs were unusually high, like it was using 6th gear only. He tried to force it to go on 7th gear with paddles, but that didn't work. That's when I asked here for a help.
After a moment fuel light turned on. Dad filled the tank just enough to assume that the fuel light would turn off, but it didn't. Then engine warning light turned on and now when driving, revs were unstable.

Luckily in this neighbor town there is a Mercedes-Benz dealership and we got the car there. After the analyzis of mechanic, it was found out that the fresh air tube going out from the turbo into engine was broken. So engine didn't get fresh air as it was intended. So most probably car noticed this unusual air flow and it limited transmission only to 6 gears.

They'll repair the car on friday and then I'll get to know more.

But anyway huge thanks for quick response, I appreciate it.
