Brake disks do not buckle or warp. Urban myth.

They can be fitted to run out of true, as mentioned.

They can contain manufacturing inclusions or have incorrect heat treatment process which may induce uneven wear at one point on the surface, creating a high spot which will produce the pulsing effect. This issue is pretty easy to design out with modern OEMs.

But... they don’t buckle or warp.

Disc (Yanks spell it with a k ;)) Thickness Variation ..... but when people say warped discs, you know what they mean ..... you end up with the same feel under your foot ;);)

Some yrs ago I replaced my clk discs with a mid range pattern part
Within 2 months I had brake judder.I put old discs back on.no issues and been that way since. The original were just tatty not too thin and I am very fussy about keeping things clean. Lesson learnt .do yr repairs, dont change owt that dont actually need change.

..................................... We recommend that you dry the brakes after washing so not to leave a rusty impression of your brake pad on the disc.

And we all know how to dry the brakes after washing, any excuse for a high speed.................low sedate careful drive around the block to dry off any left residue water on the disc :D

Must be me but I don't "brake a lot" I sometimes "retard my progress" or perhaps find a reason to "finish travelling" :)

As above.
My rules are:
  1. Ensure hub to disc surface is clean when fitting new discs.
  2. Ensure wheel to disc face is clean and grease free.
  3. New discs new pads.
  4. Bed the brakes in properly. A proper bedding in drive is better than a general 50 miles of gentle driving.
  5. Never leave the brakes applied after coming to a stop, that's what your parking brake is for and will help prevent pad transfer onto the disc giving rise to apparent "warping".

Makes HOLD a bit redundant then .... ;)

Yep. Used it once when I first got my current car and decided that with an electronic handbrake its a useless gimmick.

I often use HOLD .... but rarely use the parking/hand brake. Both foot & electric parking brake use the discs/pads anyway so it's immaterial which I use.

I used brake hold on my W211 for 100k miles, discs lasted 60k miles and never an issue

The parking brake doesn't use the front brakes and uses shoes internal to the rear disk and so you wont get pad transfer onto a hot disk which is what typically gives rise to the claim that the disks are warped.

There's an obvious difference in our driving styles. I've never had a set of discs last 60k miles and I only replace them when they're close to minimum thickness.

The electric parking brake on my W166 ML350 does actually use the rear disc ..... it's not a top hat disc/drum set up as used on my previous R Class on other cars I've had. ;)

My 211’s were about the same, think I changed the first set around 55k and the other set after another 68k

I also used brake hold on my W213 E220d and never had the discs changed in 48K miles. I try not to brake if possible as I've paid to get to speed, I'm not desperate to waste that as heat...

I've had 3 203s and 1 W209 with this issue and it turned out to be the master cylinder holding the brakes on very slightly and only intermittently after some heavy braking had been applied, eg, braking from 70 on a motorway.

You dont want to know how we sussed it, but lets just say 1 car was a guinea pig of fixes before we sussed it.

Thanks,
Was it a new master cylinder job then?
