When mine leaked, it showed very little outward signs of leaking, and I am not sure from your pics if those stains are coolant or not. Chances are that they are though. Only way to confirm it will be to remove it and check the seal. When you have a leak like yours, should be obvious..damp carpets, strains around the water pump, header tank cap, radiator etc. If those are not present, it's the filter housing, and as the car will be moving, the water will be dispersed.
Thanks Jim, after looking last night I cannot see any signs of water near the water pump or radiator, I can see liquid on the under tray directly under the fuel filter and where the photo is showing. Its hard to see on the photo but with a torch you can see the water clearly pooling where I pointed out. I had a new water pump fitted probably 18 month a go.

Pressure test cooling system should become easier to find. Don't pump over system rating. Let us know how much yr plastic housing costs if that's it

Looks to be the same as mine

Wow! pull off and push fit components! and not a single tool lost to the dark underbelly, not a knuckle skinned to the bone and best of all, no special tools needed!?! I like this sort of mechanicking (A Fred Dibnah technical terminology) it would be good for my blood pressure at least :). If only...
So half the battle over Dean is it going to be a DIY project? you'll have to make a proper video of the procedure? :)

I think this fellow's video's are informative, clutter free, direct and to the point without any narration or background muzak to distract you and get in the way of things, while the subject is a water pump change on the OM651 the reason I'm posting shows at 04:40 the coolant drain point and from 34:00 the coolant refill procedure relevant to the thread, The latter I don't fully understand but I'm sure there will be those who do to explain further, is this procedure and equipment mandatory for a coolant change on an OM 651 engine or is there an alternative DIY method? What is the purpose of such equipment in the first instance? I can only assume that without the compressed air and vacuum procedures there would be a lot of trapped air in the system after a full or partial drain?

Just a thought on the refilling and bleeding the a system to remove the air pockets in the video ( and a very good video it is too ) Say if the header return pipe was removed from the tank, and a longer plastic pipe attached, with the free end placed in a container, and the engined allowed to run. As the old fluid is pumped out, it will be replaced by ordinary water ( if a full flush is required ) or by the new antifreeze. Has anyone ever done this?

Yes. his videos are really good. And because he is wearing a headcam, you get exactly the same view as himself of the job. One small niggle ( there's always one ... ) and its a very common one, in my view. And that's the lighting. Now if he was wearing one of those LED lights along side the headcam, it would be brilliant. In the opening sequence, you will see what I'm talking about...the car is backlit against the open door of the workshop and when he lifts the bonnet, it leaves the engine in a pool of darkness. Small niggle I know.
The last time I changed the coolant in mine, I just opened the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator. opened the header tank, and let nature take its course ( engine was hot ) For refilling, after closing the valve on the rad, I kept filling the header tank with the bleed screw on the block open until water bubbled out, the closed it and ran the engine until all the air had bled out. Takes a little bit of time, but it worked fine for me.

Quite possibly tony, while I'm in no way a mechanic I do know my way round a set of spanners. Doesn't seem to difficult to do just put you hand over it and it come off. Happy days :D:D:D
