Hi I have a 2010 e-class coupe 200cgi manual box, Engine not getting to temperature very quickly takes about 10miles if the ambient temperature is 10+.
So question is can anybody recommend good suppliers for a new thermostat and indeed all mercedes parts, mercedes quote £130, The last time I had to change a thermostat on any car must have been over 20yrs ago and cost peanuts. Interesting design as you purchase an elaborate housing containing the thermostat as a unit. Not sure how much fluid you loose when replacing?
Out of interest does anybody know if when they fail is it designed to fail in the open position or was that just fortunate?.
Already bought one from GSF but they supplied the wrong unit, will give them a call and see if they can supply the correct one but somehow not very hopeful.

If its staying at around 85 to 90 when fully opened its working OK. 10 miles to 90 is no time to wait. Time a kettle to boil. :)

Id certainly not buy anything for waterworks other than mb themselves, a few quid saved now will be lost later.

Some clever guy will organise a housing that a regular statt can go in .and a way to confuse the electronic. Pt if twas ,30quid nonone would bother.just makers at it..

Anybody know a good mercedes parts supplier? here in the UK or even shipped via Germany, apart from mercedes dealers of coarse. Parts like theromostat's are mostly supplied to manufactures via a third party.

Best to start with the MB part number. Then look for online MB parts people (MB Newcastle, Teile-Profis etc. and/or AutoDoc where you should look for recognised, quality makes.

I found autodoc sold separately. Ideally you need to see the numbers on the old thermostat to make certain.

Mine failed in the open position and seems fairly typical from what others have reported on here. A word of warning about fitting a pattern part I wouldn’t best results have been from fitting a Mercedes sourced unit both for fit and performance

Can I suggest an easier method.
Push down a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator, only the lower half.

Just don’t block your intercooler or you’ll be in a world of pain after a while

Thanks for the advice, Old school methods work ok some of the time.
Anybody used autodoc before? good or poor experience?.
Does anybody know how I find the OEM no for the part? Autodoc show lots of thermostats for the car, not all the same. one or two look similar but Ive already had one wrong part from GFS.

Give MB Grangemouth parts dept a a ring , they give a healthy discount for forum members and deliver for £5

I use AutoDoc regularly without problems.

BUT, do not use their search to identify parts. I've seen equally inaccurate identification from the UK Euro Car Parts site.

Identify your MB part number using the MB EPC. I use this one:
https://mercedes.7zap.com/en/eu/fg/car/

The use AutoDoc to cross-reference to the parts that they stock.

Works well for me.

No problem fitting a thermostat from MB, But who at mercedes allowed this to get past the drawing board. This is the most basic low tech piece of equipment costing no more than a few pounds, which they have designed an elaborate housing incorporating the thermostat all of which is perfectly serviceable but is now destined for landfill and they charge you £130 for the privilege.
Bonkers MB
