What’s the procedure with BCA collecting the car John. Don’t know whether to use them or take the GLE back to the dealer.
Hi Ian
They arrange date and approximate time
Guy phoned me when about an hour away
Came and did an inspection of the car, noting and taking pictures on an iPad which was populated with damage costs
Showed me what he was reporting and cost, emailed me a copy....
Drove off.....

Sorry to see this John, glad it is only a minor and relatively cheap set back.
What will you replace the Volvo with?
I have an old Volvo too, 70s version :)

Total respect to you John for coming clean , we've all done stuff , my first experience was reversing into a rusty oil container bin after a day at Castle Combe , way before the days of reversing cameras and reversing sensors , bin was lower than boot level and the return to the car angle wasn't revealing.

been there, done that.
Few years ago i was fishing a competition that involved a four hour drive and a couple of overnight stops ( well, you have to don't you).
I decided to use the wife's Mini Clubman for economy, loaded it all up the day before, and started backing off the lawn (i do not know why i did not put it on the drive) and this ****** tree, that was not there earlier in the day, got behind the car, damaged rear bumper (which i repaired myself after my holiday, erm, competition).
The tree has been there for 20 years !!!!!

My E class & both of my wife's last two SLK's parking sensors went red with about 6" to go.
The SLC does not, 2" if you are lucky. So red rally does mean stop now.

I friend visited us at night we live at the end of a private drive, he reversed out & backed into the lamp post. Didn't you see that lamp post his wife said, there is a big light on top of it. Silence!

Our SLK too is a little cautious on the sensors. My E Class is better, when they go red and a continuous bleep sound, you have to stop!

Anyways BCA collection guy was very sympathetic and noted it all as best he could - £227 is the damage , could have been soooooo much worse!

Is the light cracked, and the bumper pushed out of alignment with the quarter-panel?

I know their dilapidation figures are often less than repair costs, but if £227 is correct then you've had a massive let-off there. I woudn't be surprised if the rear light costs that much on its own.

Garage walls are a trap! My wife had a new car delivered a couple of daye before the new reg date and I noticed the mats weren't clipped down. In 'fixing' them I nudged the centre of the drivers door into the corner of a wall. Literally just touched the wall but made a dent and broke the paint. Wife didn't speak to me for two days.

a tale from a mate that works at a main dealer

The brand new motablity was delivered to a customer's house after having been adapted for its owner with a left foot throttle. These throttles are made such that as you lift the left throttle pedal out of the way, the normal right foot throttle pedal drops. The adult son of the disabled customer came home and found the motabilty car was in the way so decided to move it. Instead of lifting the left foot throttle of the way and drive the car 'normally' he tried to use the left foot throttle.
Result was ..... Being a stalwart manual driver, the more he dipped the clutch  the faster he went!!!!! ..... He bounced this brand new car off about 7 or 8 neighbours car!!!! And wrote the motabilty car off with about 20 miles on the clock! :D:D:D:D

Makes a slight parking ding pale into insignificance ;)

The light is the worst damage , it is cracked for sure.
The other damages can be smart repaired I reckon.
I agree Rory, my thoughts were £500/£600 easily

Hey my wife drove head on onto a full size skip once in our early marriage, it was even surrounded by warning road lights and was daytime, had a mk3 Escort then so was probably a good place for it!

I was sitting next to her and exclaimed "what the duck were you thinking of" she replied "it's your fault I was concentrating on the shopping and didn't see it"! "If you were to help out more with domestic duties it would not have happened".

Must have been very early in the marriage then, you hadn’t learned that it was always your fault even if you had nothing to do it it.

£227 for that damage? If so I'd say you got away with they very well!

I thought the lease company would have charged you through the nose for at least smart repair to bumper (if not full repaint) and a new rear light cluster.
