Mercedes 220 Class
Hi just joined forum, I’ve just discovered a corroded sub frame on my 60 plate 220 C class which was in such a dangerous state.
Car was like skating on ice.
I understand that Mercedes has a 30 year non corrosion warranty.
Currently being examined at Mercedes Stratford in London. This is a warranty issue awaiting for decision on this as I expect my car to be repaired under the warranty.
My Mercedes is very well cared for by my independent garage.
Surely my car along with many more should have been recalled to have these sub frames inspected and or repaired.
I’m surprised I wasn’t involved in an accident because of this.
Hopefully there hasn’t been any accidents due to this before.
Sitting tight and waiting for sanity to prevail.

Yes I’ve heard back from Mercedes and they will be undertaking the work under warranty.:))
Not sure yet if this includes labour costs too but in my mind this should also be included.
Will let the forum know as soon as it becomes clear.

Picked up my car from Stratford Mercedes Benz, repaired at lightning speed thank god!
All work done under warranty.
What’s worrying is that this issue is not a recall by Mercedes Benz, luckily I wasn’t involved in accident due to the corroded sub-frame and subsequent snapping of this most vital component.
Watch your sub-frames folks....

Wow that was quick work. Usual response seems to be to have to wait several weeks to fit you in. Desperation stakes on the part of Stratford MB for some work? Although you would hope it was MB's concern for your safety.

Seems to me that they must have had a stock pile of the sub-frames, anticipation of further warranty work to be carried out.
Well if they haven’t carried out any modifications to the part I or the next owner of my car will be contacting MB to fix the subsequent corroded sub-frame again.

I have a C220
I know. You have the W204, C 220, C Class.

But your sig says you have a 220 class. As you know the 220 can be an A, B, C or E class and many others too.

I'd seriously consider getting underneath and applying some good anti rust wax to the new subframe, preferably before it gets mucky.

When I heard about this I made arrangements with my garage and every time they do a service job they check it and spray anti-rust wax - the mechanic told me he tries to get as much as possible inside because the word is they corrode outwards.

We've had postings on here where MB have refused warranty for this which seems very odd. I think it will be quite interesting when someone brings a test case to court - I would expect the manufacturer to lose the case, especially given the 30-year anti perforation warranty!

I was talking to my Indy about this yesterday and he said they used cheap steel from Russia
This should 100% be a recall
Surly it’s only a matter of time before someone gets really hurt or worse

I think it would take an organization of some sorts such as Trading Standards to take these issues to court, not an individual. MB have a history of defending these things to the full extent and private individuals have been virtually bankrupted when confronting MB in court. In the States of course it's a different matter, where companies seem to fold more easily:rolleyes:

Quality is a greasy slope on modern motors.

I have already done that twice, won both times.

Well done FS - did they try very hard to wriggle out of it or was it tame in the end?

I'm really pleased to hear that somebody has won like that because in an earlier post somebody mentioned MB's habitual propensity to throw money at their case which most private individuals would find very hard to compete against.
