More of a Tank trap than a pothole!

We couldn't believe how huge it was either.
Going to get the 55 checked out as the right front is definitely low. Saw it this morning on our way out. Looked back at the photo once the wheel was back on and that looked too low as well.

After the repair on the rim and new tyre we went back in the 55 and measured the hole depth, width and length......I think it has damaged the front right strut and bumper.
Hole size of the hole was basically 1.5metres by 1.5metres and over 150mm deep, plus it had a paint faded white line around the hole. Guessing the white is a non urgent repair as on an unnamed road. Going to track down the council and or highways agency because we should be able to complain about this.

Even my crutches weren't long enough to go across the entire length.
The state of most of our roads are appalling! I experienced this 7 years ago coming down the A24, just left Dorking at night torrential rain and roads flooding, i hit a massive puddle or should have been lake! Took foot off acc but hit a masive hole! ...crater more like which was covered by the water, i managed to carry on but car was not running right and i saw quite a few cars on the side of road whole were not so lucky? Next morning i found my N/S/F wheel buckled. Contacted Horsham council to complain and put a repair bill in, guess what, did not want to know! Got a second hand wheel and got it replaced had suspension checked but luckily no damage, Phew! God knows what drivers from other countries think when they come off the ferries and get welcomed by our appalling roads?

If the hole is not fully contained within the surface of the road it’s classed as a “collapsed verge” and not a pothole, and so the council are magically absolved of liability!

WOW...I don't think I have seen a bigger hole on a UK road! No car could go through this at normal speed and remain unscathed.
The fact that it has white paint around it suggests it is already known to the council, so should make the claim process that bit easier.

P.S. I like your nail varnish. ;)

That huge hole was just on the brow of a incline so very hard to see until you were actually on top of it, easily seen coming in the opposite direction. We would have been doing about 40mph on this 60mph road too as it was a single road with passing lanes

That looks like it has been repaired (hence the faded white line round it) and collapsed again!!!!

Quite possibly.
I know on the way home there was a distinct vibration in the car, so I'll remove the rear wheel and check for buckling

Continuing on with the SL55 today and removing the rear wheels we found perfectly round wheels and soon to be new tyres
Next I had to have a look at why the SRS light came while on the return journey home yesterday. At 10pm it started to get a little chilly so I decided to lower my seat as far as it would go and then backwards so the cool air passed over me, however when I was moving the seat back the airbag light came on, that strange I thought and then the Missus said that the SRS light is on. My guess was something under the seat had come adrift, who needs Star I fixed it today as it had pulled a plug out of the sockets under the seat. :D
My next job to do on the car which has been on the to do list is to replace the lowering links that some expert had fitted which made the car too low even on the highest setting. Not entirely successful as I found a crack in the plastic arm. Removed the sensor and freed up the lowering link adjuster and refitted it. Them started on the O/S rear, some thing really but in trying to free up the adjuster I snapped the link :(
Now ordered a new set of standard links and sensors, sorry a second hand set

Just as well I taxed the Money Pit today, 55 will be out of commission for a few days...Oh, the latest. The Money Pit's parking sensors have just failed......might have to get Star

Well I picked up a nail in my front nearside tyre...and sods law dictates that it was right on the edge of the tread which means it could not legally be repaired.
One brand new Bridgestone Turanza T005 later in MO fitment and my bank balance £134 lighter, while the old tyre still had 6mm of tread remaining.
On the plus side my rim survived completely unscathed which was my main worry...so I'm happy/not happy.

P.S. My first puncture in almost 30 years!

Over that distance your average fuel consumption is really quite impressive...but need to keep an eye on the predictive text. :p
My text is as written… ;)

Still illegal under the wireless telegraphy act to transmit profanity. I’m probably one of the last to have signed said act though…
