Here to get general advice on my A Class 180 (cheapest Merc). Didn't even know I had to get my MOT the other day
Just been told by Kwikfit my tyres are low and need replacing then balancing.
Plus I may need to sort my tracking shall I only go to Mercedes for this?
My tyres are Continental do I have to replace like for like?

Hello and welcome

I would avoid Kwik fit like the plague, they (along with many others) up sell to the unwary.

Check your tyres yourself, park up with the steering turned to one side and see what the tread looks like. Is it worn even across the face of the tread? Can you see the wear markers? (These are little bands between the tread) if they’re level with the rest of the tread they need replacing.

Always balance with new tyres so you don’t get shaking through the seat or wheel.

You can replace with any tyre that meets the size, weight and speed rating for the car.

Tracking shouldn’t require doing if the tyres are wearing evenly.

Welcome to the forum.

Tyre brand can be whatever rocks your boat. The size needs to be like for like - stamped on the sidewall.

Look on the likes of blackcircles for an overview of tryes available in your size and the cost and the properties you are after (noise, fuel effeciency etc etc).

Also call a few tyre places near you for a price to get a good overview.

As mentioned look at the bands across the tyre tread to see of they are at min - the band is level with the tread - then they need changing asap.

If your car is drifting, uneven tyre wear then get it aligned - a good tyre place will do this for about 40 pounds if its out.

And yes avoid Kwik Fit.

Any tyre place worth its salt will balance whenever a wheel is removed for whatever reason.

Do post back and enjoy the forum....

Beko - Welcome.

As has been said avoid KwitFit like the plague.

Please update your profile to show your locality - we can then recommend decent local businesses to help you; don't go to an MB franchisee !

Hi, Other tyre shops are available, or if you are really confident of what size you require, get them of Amazon, much cheaper and free delivery if you have Prime. Most tyre shops will fit and balance them for 10-15 quid a corner.

I have used online tyre sales & had some good deals in the past, but I now use our local Mr Tyre. He will match the price of anything on line.
Continentals are a good tyre if a little expensive. I & several others use Uniroyal Rainsports, a little cheaper but great grip epically in the wet.
