A bit of digging has shown up this document which appears to show the sensor in the diff is (roughly) inversely proportional to the ratio, therefore my current 5-speed C200 3.46 has 28 teeth on the ABS gear while a 3.07 from a 4-speed C200 would have 31 teeth, compensating for the higher...
That would make sense I suppose. Pity, as I've got to replace seals in my diff and it seemed like a "while I'm in there" opportunity to quieten the car down a little.
I'm curious whether changing the final drive ratio would require any alternation to an automatic gearbox.
Just a mental exercise at the moment, swapping the existing 3.46 for an easily obtainable 3.07 would drop motorway rpm a little - so I'm wondering whether the 722.6 would be happy with...
I've tried a 38-pin to 16-pin adapter as found on fleabay which does indeed connect pin 4 and allows my generic ODB2 reader to look at ECU. What I can't do it see anything regarding transmission etc., hence wondering whether the blink method would work on other pins ... or whether I need...
I have a 1999 W202 C200 - looking for clarification on the diagnostic port.
I believe these later cars support ODB2, however presents as a 38-pin round port. Given this port style - does it *also* support the blink tester method with an LED, switch and resistor to read out codes? Did one...
Unsure as to the actual material of the "wood" trim along the top of the door card, but it's bowing to the extent that it's pulling the surround off the seat position switches.
Is it possible to bend it back into shape if I take it off.... or must I replace? Would it respond to a little heat...
I wish to lubricate the various linkages that form the throttle control on my M104, having realised no benefit at all from replacing the throttle cable.
I read that I should use ATF in the ball sockets and the pivots.... just wondering whether power steering fluid would be the same, as I have...
I found this old (but increasingly relevant) thread while looking into whether E10 would be OK for my car and thought it worth sharing a Service Information document for anyone else concerned.
It's in German, but the table shows the engines that are *not* suitable for E10. I was curious about...
That's a smart idea, the webbing, I have a concrete ground, so it does tend to slip easily.
I've been taught to always have a secondary support, be it the jack, a wheel, something in addition.... belt and braces.... so I quite fancy the idea of four axle stands in position in case any of the...
What’s the general thinking about having all four wheels off the ground on the driveway? Is it safe to run two wheels up a pair of Halfords ramps - and then jack up the other end to support on axle stands? Would that be stable/safe, or should I clear my mind of such thoughts?
Thinking of diff...
Oh absolutely, it’s a lovely contrast to the C209 with its light throttle - and I do like the “organic” feel :)
It’s just that a couple of other 124 drivers commented mine is heavy - and in reading so much about lubricating and re-routing the cable, I thought it was interesting to note that the...
Had a go at lubricating my throttle cable a while ago (dry ptfe) and noticed an improvement to my heavy throttle, but still heavy. Considered replacing the throttle cable.
This evening, driving up a long steep hill, I hit “resume” on the cruise control which was set at “70”-ish from a speed of...
This is what worries me... the spring is pushing down and if I loosen the bolts through the bushes they might settle lower... guess I can mark the position before loosening and use a jack to nudge it back into position before I re-tighten.
If I totally feck it up, I'll get it to the garage to...
A new pair of lower wishbone arms were fitted several months ago... it would make sense that they would be under a constant twist given that they were installed on a two-post lift. Should I simply slacken off and re-torque the (green) bolts while the wheels are supported on a pair of car ramps...
