How to wash newly powder coated alloys

Thanks for all the replies people. I gave them a very light wash today as there were some fitter's oily fingermarks in places. I usually use a watering can if I'm not using the steam cleaner, and with the new lacquer applied, the water just bubbled off anyway, which is great. I'll get some...

How to wash newly powder coated alloys

Just had my alloys powder coated in gun metal grey. I want to try and keep them looking minty for as long as possible. I intend to avoid harsh or acidic products, and I’ll clean them by hand rather than with with the jet washer. I’ve got an old bottle of Triplewax shampoo which is ph neutral...

    Diamond cut refurb

Ok job done. They also found one of my rims was buckled, (not during my two years of ownership!) so another £40 to fix this. I was sceptical about this at first, but this corner has had a long term very slow puncture which couldn't be detected in a water bath. The owner at Star Alloys explained...

    Diamond cut refurb

They look fine to me, although your pics aren’t particularly hi res on my iPad. They look much better than mine do at the moment. The blokes at Star were pretty emphatic that diamond cutting will look amazing for a while, but wont last. Hence the powder coat has a two year warranty, while the...

    Diamond cut refurb

Very nice, they do look smart, nice callipers too. I’ve gone for gun metal to match the existing factory paint behind the diamond cut.

    Diamond cut refurb

My lovely AMG alloys had been refurbed before I bought my car a couple of years ago, but now even though I've never kerbed them, they've got quite a lot of white oxidation splodges around the outer edges and hub. I have a local place who I haven't used before (Star Alloys in Preston, who come...

    Independent specialist online service history

The online service history is owned by MB, but I'm sure I read somewhere that some indies are allowed to access and update it. Is this right? And can anyone recommend a high quality genuine MB indy specialist in/around Lancashire, ideally Preston?

    Spiders In Side Mirrors

Guaranteed way to get rid of spiders in wing mirrors, or anywhere else for that matter.. Wait til your car has been still for a while, then throw a little bit of leaf debris into the web. The spider will think it's a fly, and will rush out to kill it. You can then either squash it with your...

Battery conditioner / charger advice needed

I lost my nerve in the end. Not wanting to risk any damage to my electrics, and listening to the caution of bc100, I bought the Maypole MP7428 (which thanks to a pricing error I only paid £24 for in the end). But I also bought the less powerful MP7423 too (£18), which, crucially, doesn't appear...

Battery conditioner / charger advice needed

I found the earth connection point. It was on the opposite side of the engine bay from where it was described in the handbook! And I've ordered this charger, £29.85 inc p&p at the moment...

Battery conditioner / charger advice needed

Thanks for the photo, but my engine layout is definitely not the same. My battery and positive slider is located back of the bay on the right, so I'm okay with that. But there's no negative post anywhere. I'll have to fasten it to the block as suggested above.

Thanks Malcolm. I found the positive behind the slider. It's just the earth I can't locate.

Battery conditioner / charger advice needed

Is that suitable for a car? The description says it's for motorbikes? Actually, looking at it on Amazon, it says its for a range of motors, up to 2.5L My car has a 3.0L engine. Will it still work?

Battery conditioner / charger advice needed

For motorbik Thanks for the advice, and the link. I know I'm being an idiot, but can you advise me on whether the charger goes in the engine bay or the boot. And does the charging process charge both batteries at the same time? Thanks again.

Battery conditioner / charger advice needed

A few weeks ago I got a warning to say the collision prevention system was inoperative. Some very kind people on here told me it was just a battery issue, and so after a reasonably long drive the warning went away. I'm only really doing short drives during lockdown, and the warning is back again...

    Collision prevention assist plus inoperative

Great, ta, I’m due a long drive this week so hopefully that’ll sort it out.

    Collision prevention assist plus inoperative

Cheers Mark. Would I not get a dashboard warning if my battery voltage was so low?

    Collision prevention assist plus inoperative

Yes, agreed. I had an MB service due next month but I’ve just brought it forward. I was sort of hoping someone might tell me this is a known issue and nothing to worry about, but like you say, better to know for sure. Cheers.

    Collision prevention assist plus inoperative

This warning came up two weeks ago. It stayed on for 3 or 4 days, covering maybe 8 short journeys all under 5 miles. I fiddled with my settings but couldn’t resolve it. My car gets covered in leaves this time of year, so I gave it a really good jet wash and polish, but that didn’t work either. I...
