First got into Merdedes in 1988, a 190E, what a wonderful car, had them ever since with another notable one an E300 or was it a 300E (can't rember) but just a wonderful car
But my latest, the all new GLA (H247?) - that is going to be my last, full of rubbishy electronics, a very disappointing...
New type GLA 70 plate (new sept 20)
Keep getting a message on the multimedia display about reading new terms & conditions and agreeing to them, the message keeps appearing when driving so I have not had the opportunity to see what it is saying, so I just tap on "LATER"
Any idea what this...
I know of someone who had a failed big end on a two year old evoque.
An evoque was one of the cars we considered when we recently changed, we didn't like the claustrophobic cabin and was appalled at its 32mpg test drive so didn't buy. I did try and discuss the unreliability issues with the...
When I retired and wound up my small ltd company, I bought My works van from myself. Because of the name change I lost my NCB. So from paying £280 a year for 20k mileage, I then had to pay nearly 600 for 4k annual mileage.
Also got ripped off with the road tax, had to cancel with refund from...
Gliding / rolling is a great way to achieve higher mpg, spinning an engine at 1500 + revs is very energy expensive, only should be in gear if you want to drive the vehicle or slow the vehicle.
This tech has been on HGVs for quite some time, some of the systems even anylise roads from shared...
As to the limit - If it is only for relatively short sections in built up areas then it is worth a trial to see if it does reduce pollution levels, I suspect it will.
As for motorways in general, I would raise max speed to 80 then have it strictly enforced with hidden and average speed cameras...
95% by what measure ? weight ?
just recycle the steel on an offshore platform and that could be very do-able.
95% sounds fantastic but they may well have had that weighed in down the scrappies without prompting.
Had a look through the mpg records for our last car (2 litre vag diesel (the cheat one)
Two charts from the same data, the first showing each individual fill (lots of variance with seasonal fluctuations)
The second showing as close as possible a rolling 365 day total (we did 10k in first year...
I can't seem to find it? sorry, I must be going a little mad
I'm sure there was a link earlier from someone to the "Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership" which you mention in the post below.
here is the page I went to that has the 24 ton figue and the production costs of 5.6 ton...
But then again how confident are you with the figures you suggest, you say 2 to 2.5 tons and then link to the industries own figures that suggest 5.6 tons ?
heck 1.5 tons of steel stock out of the furnace already has a carbon footprint of 2.7 tons, and that is before the car facory is built...
It is a complex subject but I would be very suspicious of the motor industries own figures.
A more independent view perhaps

Couldn't agree more but I'm not the only one in this household. The green solution in the vast majority of cases is to keep what you have.
The car we are buying probably generated around 12 tonnes of CO2 in its production and delivery. (these figures are never known but I believe 12t would...
It would have been nice to go electric however part of what I do requires me to take quite long journeys at very short notice, then when I'm away I certainly don't want the hassle of worrying about getting it charged up. The wonderful thing about fossil fuel is refuelling is fast and very...
Do you honestly believe that rpm has such a direct link with fuel economy? gears are there to keep the engine at its most efficient rpm, increasing the gearing will load the engine more and it will use more fuel for the same rpm. At the end of the day it is just straight forward basic physic...
Which ever pollution you wish to highlight, in free flowing traffic it will go up per mile with increase of speed.
For me climate change arguments went out about a decade ago, man made climate change denial seems to fit nicely alongside 5G being responsible for Covid.
True that we are no where...
Pollution is a factor of how much fuel is being used opposed to how long the vehicle spends on a road.
Travelling at 80mph and achieving 35mpg you will leave 70% more pollution per mile than if you had been travelling 50mph and achieving 60mpg. How long you spend on that road makes no...
I have never known one that doesn't, our yeti was always about 7% out from reality.
I won't get to know the truth behind the merc until mine arrives and I have done a few fill to fill calculations. The only metric I have been able to verify on the B Class was the true mileage. on a known...
Not my car, ours is lost in Zeebruger so they have given me a B Class as a courtesy car,
Not a very inspiring little car from the outside, but once in it it is surprisingly roomy, very comfortable and refined.
Now considering this car has only 200 mile on the clock I was very very impressed...
