Entering the minefield of bigger wheels and tyres.......
1994 S124 320 TE fitted with standard 8 hole alloys 205/65x15 tyres. Not sure of rim width or offset but the wheelchecker link mentioned on here shows that tyre size on 15" wheel as being 6.5" width with an ET of 44,48 or 49??? The wheels...
Took my A124 in for a health check at W.D.M Cars (Aldridge near Sutton Coldfield/Walsall) today. Very good service, the technician allowed me to see my car up on the lift from underneath to show me a couple of things (positive, not just negative/'work needs doing' things) and just a general chat...
Cheers LK
DAB won't work at all on an AM/FM antenna as I understood it without an extra cable feed. The new head unit comes with a DAB antenna to stick on glass and wired direct to head unit but I am going to investigate the DAB 'transmitters' you can get that do use the main antenna harness...
When I bought my car it had a 'Halfords special' Kenwood head unit. I have since replaced this with a Blaupunkt Bremen period style but updated for DAB, SD card, USB, etc.
On the rear it was plug and play but with only two connectors used whereas the Kenwood had three connectors attached.
I'm...
Anybody heard/used/experience of this outfit down in Aylesbury; Edward-Hall, https://www.edward-hall.co.uk/
Specialise in 1960-1990's MB's
Had a chat and will take a drive down for a 'health check' type review of my car to see what needs doing on it as I want to keep it in decent shape and...
As to the OP...........
When I decided on a Merc' SL I decided on buying the best I could find for my budget, around £20-£21k (part-chopped a BMW so all about price-to-change rather than screen price), and I think I found it. Wasn't bothered if SL500 (but liked thought of V8) or SL350 (but...
Local trading standards are worth a call asking for advice on how best to approach matters with the dealer. It does sometimes spike their interest to take it up on your behalf if they feel a need to but they are like a 'citizens advice bureau' on an initial call with lots of useful advice...
Sold my Audi A3 Convertible for £3680 more than I paid for it 6 months earlier. Bought my ‘modern classic’ a124 E320 for what I felt was a good price and similar to price range I’d been watching for 4-5 months so ‘worked’ for me but I know people selling their cars for ‘£1000’s more’ but are...
I was on an 'emergency' resourcing project and was up 5-6 times a week for a couple of months before dropping down to 'only' 2-3 times a week for about a year - my fuel bill dropped to a mere £150-£230 or so a week then ;)
Fortunately the employer was paying and it was actually quite...
I went to transfer my insurance with the AA from my 2016 Audi A3 convertible to my 1995 Mercedes a124 E320 convertible but they won't insure a car 'that old' so I had to cancel the policy and start new. To be fair to AA the refund was pretty close to a pro-rata return so no complaints with them...
Is it worth travelling to another town/city for a test if can get it sooner?
I think the test is harder now than 'back in my day' (1980). The highway code was learnt by rote (same today but more obscure questions?), braking distances had a simple calculation that if you memorised it you...
Went the whole hog and got one of these ‘period style’ but modern DAB, Bluetooth, phone, SD card, aux in, etc.
Need to set the DAB aerial up and get replacement rear wing electric aerial as current one doesn’t ‘close’ fully
It was a bitch to get off!!
Front plate broke into pieces when pulling off despite trying to get a blade behind it. Last owner was 13 years or so and private plate swap at point of sale so I’m guessing the sealant was about 13 years old….
It was quite thick so sprayed WD40 over it and used...
What a PITA. Whoever thought bathroom sealant was a good idea to affix number plates needs, metaphorically, shooting.
On a positive aside, plates won’t get stolen!
I got into Mercedes via........ a spreadsheet! Bear with me......
I had been in company car scheme for about 20 years (Rover/BMW/Volvo/JLR group). Having left Aston Martin I needed to spend my own cash on a car
I knew what I wanted and didn't want but used 'business tools' to do...
I go from 'empty' (usually 50-60 mile range so warning light about to come on or just come on) and fill up. Usually around £110 or so in the Defender. Now I'm semi retired that will usually last me around 3 weeks including couple of runs to Shrewsbury to see my mum.
My Wife's Evoque is...
