Thanks again folks.
Going slightly off topic, I am in Norfolk and probably drive only a couple of thousand miles per year in the car.
I need to refurb the alloys, probably have the drivers seat repaired and maybe the doorcards and then I will have a half decent car.
Whilst costs are starting...
Hi
My local garage looks afte me well but I am increasingly being asked to source replacement parts myself.
Now, before you read any further, please bear in mind that I know very little about cars.
The first parts I bought were from the SL shop who provided a brilliant service. I thought I...
Thanks but because it is starting to fray I think that on reflection water wil probably damage it further.
Is it a time consuming job replacing the belts?
Thanks guys.
I am in Norfolk. Are we saying that this is a pretty specialised job or could a decent Indie do it?
Has anyone any experience of cleaning seatbelts, bearing in mind the car has had 24 years of wear and tear.
Hi
Seatbelts are pretty filthy but now starting to fray and it was raised by the garage at the mot today.
Is this something that can be done at a sensible cost, where does one buy replacement seatbelts?
Many thanks.
Rob
Hi
The above has almost fully disintegrated under my '99 SL bonnet. I assume if it is adhesive then it is probably a job even I can have a go at!
Can anyone recommend a suitable product/supplier balancing quality v value?
Many thanks.
Rob
Hi
Wiper works fine but then on a far too regular basis it will start making one hell of a clunk as it moves back to the horizontal starting position. It really makes a very loud clunk on every sweep back as if it is throwing itself back in to position. Next time it will work fine for a while...
Hi Mark
Well mine has just arrived in a tiny bottle, courtesy of Amazon, with german writing on and no clear instructions how to use it.
It has a sponge on the end so I assume I am just dubbing it on the rubbers as if I were cleaning shoes?
Thanks foxhat.
Can I just check what you mean by "seat it correctly"? For various reasons it has been a long time since the hard top has been off but I thought that once those clever german hydraullics kick in and grab the hard top down there would be little room for manoeuvre?
Thanks LostKiwi.
I have not taken off the hardtop to see if I have the same problem with the softtop.
Seperately someone recommended Liqui Moly Gummi-Pflege, is that the sort of thing you have in mind? The garage I visited def said windscreen seal, I think it wraps all around hence the 4 hours...
Hi
I have an annoying drip when it rains coming from the rubber above the passenger side window where it meets the roof corner. At the moment I have the winter hardtop on but I assume I will have a similar problem with the soft top because an indie Merc specialist suggested that it was caused...
I think this car is trying to wind me up! :)
Just driven it round the block to give the battery a boost and the airbag warning lights did not come on once . They have been on every time I have driven it recently, probably more like 4-6 weeks than 2 weeks on reflection.
What is going on?
Thanks
My poor old SL gets such little use, and sits outside that I am often putting it on charge. Whether it is down to the quality of the charger but this can mean it being on charge for 72 hours or more before any sign of a full charge.
The battery is probably 3 years old and a decent make. 2-3...
Brilliant, of course it is! The unit was replaced a few months back and they clearly have not sealed it properly.
Now why did I not think of that?
Many thanks.
Rob
I feel pretty daft asking this one, even by my standards, but here goes!
The last couple of months when I open the boot after rain there is what can only be described as a small torrent of water running fown from behind the boot lid trim where it meets the boot lid hinges. It is happened on...
