ok, it just sailed through the mot (one suspension arm) so looks like I'm keeping it at least a year. So question (should I start a new thread?) can the level sensor be fooled in to seeing a false (correct) level, so shutting up the warning and allow me to just use a dipstick like on a normal car?
Jury is still out on keep/scrap debate. At the moment it's serving me well as l clear my garden and use it as a van, but only a month's mot left and also has an issue with coolant disappearing...(the egr valve is staying fixed for the moment) so we shall see.
the litany of woes with my 'free' c class continue. I've checked the fuse, swapped the relay and cleaned the connections at the horns. No parping discernible. Any suggestions?
thanks for that-unfortunately, doesn't work. Sensor is obviously firked. Along with the egr valve (performance issue) and the cooling system that keeps disappearing coolant. And the mot that expires in four weeks. Think it's the glue factory for it....

who's moaning? If you read the original post, you will see that I have driven the car and warmed it up. Etc etc. There are many dipsticks on ebay, from £10 t0 £130!! And they all seem to agree on the same length for the 2143(?)cc engine, 596-616mm. So I just stuck a length of carefully...
I've just had a look. Transmission dipstick tube on the r/h side at the back, engine oil dipstick on the l/h side with a plastic cap on the tube. So Mercedes must have saved...oooh...pennies, not putting a thin strip of metal down that tube. What a joke. What the hell were they thinking??
2004 C200cdi gifted me by my brother. I told him 'it's got a low oil level warning', his reply, '100% it's a sensor problem' Trouble is, it won't check the level either- just keeps telling me to 'observe waiting period', even after driving 15 miles... Can I check it manually? Why do away with a...
