My SL 320 has had a longstanding a misfire and, after my local garage changed coil packs, plugs and just about everything else including the air in the tyres (joke) I gave up and gave the car to a Merc specialist. They've had the car for a couple of weeks, after diagnosing a bad injector, but...
So, in the hope that it would help others, I will let you know what the outcome was.
I purchased an iCarSoft MB V3.0 and interrogated the car. It pointed to switch S83/1 which is a microswitch on the roll bar. Unfortunately I then ran out of time as I had to fly to Italy but dropped it off to...
Well that was a fun 40 minutes. We managed to release the hardtop and then, with a lot of swearing and grunting, release the soft top, raise it and lock it in position. However the soft top and roll bar lights are still on and pressing either (within and without of the 10 seconds the ignition...
So I recently needed to have a new battery as I'd left the car for too long over winter. Once the new battery was fitted the car starts and drive fine; the windows work (and I've reset them) but the hood and rollover bar lights stay on and the hardtop will not release. Any ideas?
Hi Fewster and welcome to the community. I also have an SL320 (1997) which, strangely, also cuts out for no apparent reason. This usually happens when I'm either just leaving home or pulling up at a set of lights not long after setting off. The engine stops, dashboard lights up and then, within...
I would agree on the Bentley Azure BUT...
As I've found over the years, if you want to own a decent car then you need to own a very decent mechanic. After many years my Bentley and RR mechanic is retiring and I can't be bothered to find and train a new one.
And my Merc mechanic, when I...
Interestingly (for me) considering the post which started this thread off, I've decided to rid myself of a few of my cars in 2021 (I've got 4, plus the business ones). The one I will be most sad to see go is the SL. I bought it as a one owner car with 27k on it and have managed to increase that...
Well,
I'm here right now, having driven down about two weeks ago. I'm in Montesilvano, just north of Pescara (about an hour south of Ancona). I usually do the trip 2/3 times a year, sometimes by bike.
Your route very much depends on what you want to do; get here as soon as possible, or meander...
Drove down to my house in Italy. 1500 faultless kms at an average of 35mpg. Aircon was perfect in 32 deg heat. For a 23 year old car, which clocked over 76,000 miles on the way down, it really is a revelation. Good posing potential amongst the Italians with the top down as well
Hi Mark,
My office is in Rainham, Essex, just off A13. If you're close to here you can pop over in it and we can swap it out - takes 5 minutes.
Hope the purchase goes well.
I think I've got a spare digital display - I bought one thinking that was the problem but didn't need it. I'll have a sort out at the weekend and let you know the part no. My car is a 1997 SL320.
(Just been down to workshop & found it. Part no. is 202 830 1485. I seem to remember that I swapped...
I had the same problem when the paint shop disconnected and reconnected the battery on my '97 320SL. It threw the system out of sync and, although I tried various resets and disconnected the battery as suggested above, nothing worked. Went to a local independent and they found various errors on...
