Suspect I will lurk on the site, though hopefully not whilst regretting having bought the BMW. Elder daughter has a 2nd generation Class A 200 (petrol) that we may buy from her later in the year when she changes to a slightly newer Class. Meanwhile younger daughter has a 2nd generation Class A...
Well, 18 year old 530D with just 65,000m (full service history, bills and mots to support) bought today. Seats seemed firm but reminded me of those on an old Saab 9000 I had. In half hour drive I found them fine but obviously I'll only really know after a long run. Very smooth engine (probably...
Thanks for the comments.
Car I'm going to view on Friday is non-sport version with manual gearbox (so no swirl flaps) sitting on it's original 16in wheels. I loved the comfort of the CLK and found I could do 750km in a day with no aches or pains and certainly don't want to lose that ability...
After my nearly mint 150,000km 2005 CLK270 was written of in Spain this February I have been searching for a replacement. Even added C Class or early E Class (not though '03-'06 as I didn't want SBC being someone who has always done all his own maintenance and repairs).
Anyway to cut a long...
After much searching I have now found a 2007 CLK320 cdi with less than 130,000km. Everything about it smells right, two owner car with 2nd owner having had it since 2014. Full MB service history with first owner and indie maintained for 2nd owner with all receipts.
Spec is what I'm after except...
I bought an icarsoft scanner when I first purchased my CLK. Must admit I hadn't thought of doing a test on prospective purchases, but why not.
Is there anything in particular I should watch for on a CLK 320 cdi? That said, being in France, I'm in research mode only as cannot go out.
Stay safe.
Thanks for the info. What are the signs please that seals have failed or about to fail? I guess leaks and can you advise from where exactly? Couplings?
Yes, I have been confused at times but believe I now understand. W209 in addition to 270 cdi had a 320 cdi model, but this only had the V6 installed V6 (not the in-line six). It's very difficult to find low mileage E Class or CLS, nor do I really want to go this big, so will stick with the CLK...
Thanks for the additional posts. So if I understand correctly the W211 is updated version of W209 and came in some time during 2006. I think I might add this to my search.
Hello, I have started looking for a low mileage (sub 150k km) lhd car to replace my 2005 270cdi CLK that was written off in Spain last month. Although I would have been happy with an E Class or C Class with the same 270cdi engine, I ended up with the CLK because these cars frequently have lower...
Thanks for the further replies. I'll check each glow plug tomorrow with my multimeter using info above and basically checking if one is very different.
On the torque values W245207 you say engine 646 that, if I'm not mistaken is a four cylinder. Do you know if the settings are the same on my...
Ignore my previous post as I’m being a numpty! Would someone please advise correct test with multimeter or guess I can find it on the internet?
Cheers, Philip
Thanks for the additional advice. As I have a multimeter I’ll test in first instance using this. Presume with one lead on top of glow plug and other end earthed i should get a very low resistance reading. If all are the same then they’re ok?
Cheers, Philip
Thanks for the replies. Changing the glow plugs I would rather avoid if possible, but if one is at fault I will change all five. I've read up on the job and it seems important items are: 1) lots of freeing fluid like Plusgas 2) engine hot and 3) Use a torque wrench to undo and do not exceed a...
I wonder if someone could help me please? I have a 2005 CLK 270 CDI with about 150,000km on the clock. Have just started getting the glow plug warning light coming on after engine starts and then extinguishing after about a minute. A read up on different forums suggests it's either a failed glow...
MY pleasure, and should you need to end up making the tester yourself for a similar problem I will be most interested in hearing how you get on.
Cheers

Hello Dean & Wighty,
Call me a grumpy old sold if you like, but when I'm asked to do something by other members on a forum and I do it, it peeves me that I don't get a thank you.
Cheers
Philip
